ViewSonic PLED-W500 review

The ViewSonic PLED-W500 is a projector finished in an expensive-looking glossy black with posh silver trim that helps project a smart, executive image even before you turn it on. It's tremendously portable – a little smaller and lighter than a copy of...

The ViewSonic PLED-W500 is a great little projector. Portable, good-looking and feature-rich it's an ideal accessory for the mobile executive who wants to make a good impression when making presentations. It'll also provide plenty of entertainment at...

Viewsonic PLED-W500 review

Viewsonic's PLED-W500 is an ultraportable LED projector. It's slightly larger than a hardback book and weighs just over 2kg, but has a 1,280x800 resolution, 500 lumens brightness and a choice of video inputs including VGA, HDMI and USB. It can also...

A decent resolution, good choice of inputs and low weight make the PLED-W500 good for travelling, but it's not very bright, has laggy controls and is quite expensive

A decent resolution, good choice of inputs and low weight make the PLED-W500 good for travelling, but it's not very bright, has laggy controls and is quite expensive

There are problems, however. In USB display mode, hovering over program icons in the Windows taskbar no longer displays information about the open program. Focus was an issue too; we noticed green fringing around areas in the top-left corner of the...

ViewSonic PLED-W500 projector review

ViewSonic's PLED-W500 projector is designed to meet the needs of business users who need to give presentations when out on the road and is also suitable for home use.

Portable, 500 lumens is fine for dimly lit rooms, can be used independently for presentations, carry case

Not bright enough for well-lit rooms, lack of acceptable audio output, £500 price tag, noisy

A reasonable effort from ViewSonic, the PLED-W500 is suitable for business users who are regularly going to carry out presentations on the move. The projector is also suitable for use in the home, but the £500 price tag is a bit steep.

Viewsonic PLED W500 portable projector

Review Some pieces of kit take a long time to review. Particularly if they're very nice pieces of kit that you're reluctant to return to the PR agency. The Viewsonic PLED-W500 is just such a piece of kit.

If you don't mind the missing bells and whistles (lens shift, zoom) and can hook the PLED-W500 to a sound system to substitute for the good-enough-for-presentation built in 2W speaker, here's a cracking good entry-level home cinema projector. At a...

Viewsonic PLED-W500 projector review

Product Viewsonic PLED-W500 projector Website www.viewsoniceurope.com/uk/ Specifications LED projector, 1280x800 resolution, 500 lumens, 6000:1 contrast ratio, 16:10, 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios supported, RGB input, S-video, HDMI, VGA, USB, Mini-USB,...

Portable, 500 lumens is OK for dimly lit rooms, good connectivity, carry case included

Fiddly remote control and poor menu, not bright enough for well lit rooms, noisy ; The Ugly ; Lack of audio output is unacceptable, £500 price tag

The PLED-W500 projector has a small frame that packs some impressive specifications including a 500 lumens LED lamp, 1280x800 native resolution and up to 100in picture size. However, the device is ultimately let down by poor performance

ViewSonic PLED-W500

The ViewSonic PLED-W500 offers light weight, small size, and a reasonably bright image.

Smaller and lighter than lamp-based projectors. Brighter than picos and palmtops. Reads files from SD cards and internal memory.

Shows scaling artifacts (unwanted patterns added to some screens) at its claimed native resolution. Lacks crisp focus.

Viewsonic PLED-W500

To further enhance portability, the PLED-W500 comes with a protective travel case. Unfortunately, as seems to be the case with this class of projector (and level of brightness), the PLED-W500 does not have a battery option, but the power supply is...

Viewsonic PLED-W500

You can make presentations without a PC. There is 1GB of memory on board and SD & USB slots. You can present from any of these. I am using the memory option. Brightness is suprising for such a small thing. Image sharpness not the best I've seen but...

Couldn't find any way to order the slides in the memory. However, if you get them in the right order in the Windows PC directory then upload the folder to the projector it peserves the order. I don't think you could shuffle the slides into a different...
