Sanyo PLVZ3 Projector

Sanyo's PLVZ3 LCD-based home theatre projector offers compelling features for the movie buff. The model has a 16:9 aspect ratio at a 1280 x 720 pixel ...

Great colour depth in a darkened room

LCD technology produces 'flyscreen' effect

Sanyo's PLV-Z3 runs quietly and produces outstanding images for a home theatre model. The only catch is the 'flyscreen' inherent to LCD technology.

Performance

Sanyo PLV-Z3

Solid video processing with 2:3 pull-down; strong feature package with numerous setup options; excellent setup flexibility with both horizontal and vertical lens shift; runs quietly.

Disappointing black-level performance; visible screen-door effect; HDMI input rolls off resolution.

While its image quality can't compete with that of entry-level 720p DLP projectors, the inexpensive Sanyo PLV-Z3 LCD is a good choice for people on a tight budget.

Sanyo PLV-Z3 LCD Video Projector

With its fold-down front panel and uninspiring plastic case, the Sanyo PLV-Z3 suggests nothing so much as a large (okay, very large) clock radio. In a world where, not so very long ago, video projectors were expected to require three or four strong...

Sanyo PLV-Z3 LCD Video Projector

You can still pay as much for a top-flight home video projector as a luxury car. Even less-lofty models command the price of economy wheels. But in the last few months, I've seen three new models for under $3500 that impressed even this CRT die-hard....

It's the end of 2004, and history is almost repeating itself. This time Panasonic launched their AE700u (the 500u's replacement) first, at the beginning of October, and Sanyo followed with the Z3 about a month later. Again, these two new projectors...

Overall picture quality ; Multiple image modes, with some excellent results ; 4 User definable settings, ideal for calibrating, or just "what you like ; More inputs, including separate HDMI, Component, and computer inputs ; 3 year warranty is longer...

Zoom lens has 20% range (1.2:1) less than most of the competition ; Rear venting design (and zoom ratio) make the Z3 less suitable for shelf mounting in rear of room ; Cannot match the higher contrast, "blacker blacks" and shadow detail found in more...

Review: Sanyo PLV-Z3

Without question the most popular resolution format for home theater projectors on the market today is 1280x720. Almost all of the higher end DLP projectors use this format, and the LCD makers have made aggressive moves in the lower end market with...
