Optoma ML500

The Optoma ML500 has a lot in common with palmtop projectors, but is a little bigger and a lot brighter.

Smaller and lighter than standard lamp-based projectors. Brighter than pico and palmtop projectors.

Shows scaling artifacts (unwanted patterns added to some screens) even at what is supposed to be its native resolution.

Optoma ML500

It is time to talk portable and that is exactly what the Optoma ML500 is. Weighing in at just 2.5 pounds, this projector definitely is light and easy to travel with. It boasts 500 lumens of light output and is a native WXGA(1280x800) projector. The...

This projector is also very capable since it features a HDMI port as well as all the standard ports you might expect your basic projector to have. Lets take a look at some of the projectors highlights and then we will move on to the more in-depth review

Optoma ML500

Compact & easy to use. Brightness is good enough for use in daylight & lit rooms. More than enough connection & adjustment options for an entry level projector & happy that it's LED driven so should last for many, many years

Compatibility with mac should be better, for example, option to save files to onboard memory (or SD/ USB) created & saved in Microsoft formats results in formatting problems. No problem when connecting directly to MacBook though

Almost Perfect

Yes it doesn't have audio out, that is what home theater receivers are for! For all of the above I got it on sale for $400 and would buy another at that price in a heartbeat. At 600 it is another question

This is an excellent projector, that is nearly perfect 9/10. Color, contrast, and clarity are all outstanding, motion is smooth, and the image is bright enough in the right circumstances (brighter than expected)

The projector can be picky with HDMI, and VGA input signals if not in the right format, brigtness is low (but you should know that going in at 500lm) ; Minor focus issue requiring a 10 minute warm-up time, set the focus and don't adjust it on startup,...

Value for Money projector

I use it mainly to watch downloaded movies from my laptop or using my HD STB. I would say this projector meets my expectations for being compact, multiple connectivity options, good picture quality, decent brightness.
