JVC DLA-HD1 review

Licence to kill off DLP

Fantastic contrast ratio ; Great features ; Superb picture quality

The future of home projection as arrived. The DILA engine is a revelation, especially with hi-def images. Simply stunning.

JVC DLA-HD1 review

OK, so the JVC DLA-HD1 is no looker – but under that blandly styled exterior lurks a real beast of a performer

Occasional users might prefer a punchier picture, but for a blacked-out home cinema, this is a steal

Best Pro Photo Projector: JVC DLA-HD1

The JVC DLA-HD1 is a full HD (1920 x 1080) front projector with a native contrast ratio of 15,000:1, which is the industry's highest native contrast ratio without the use of an iris. The new optical engine dramatically improves the precision of light...

JVC DLA-HD1

JVC DLA-HD1 is known as a 'DILA Consumer Front Projector' which was manufactured and presented by JVC. It is a 15,000:1 Contrast Ratio D-ILA Front Projector that provides viewers a Full HD experience. It weighs a good 11.6 kg and measures 455 mm...

Hook up a kick-ass PC to the HD1, fire up Left 4 Dead or World of Warcraft and you will never, ever, leave your house ever again. Seriously. They’ll have to bring in an IV drip and a catheter to keep you alive. It won’t be pretty. JVC DLA-HD1 is tagged...

JVC DLA-HD1

There's a revolution taking place in the home cinema projection world. The dominance of LCD and DLP technology is being challenged by two new kids on the block: SXRD from Sony, and now DILA from JVC

Full HD, Extraordinary contrast ratio, Magnificent video processor

No D-Sub PC input

Superb quality and performance with no real weaknesses - a sure-fire winner

JVC DLA-HD1

JVC's DLA-HD1 is a ground-breaking projector that beams out images with extremely natural colours and black levels. That said, it's not quite as sharp or as bright as some of its cheaper rivals.

Extremely deep black levels ; Very natural-looking colours ; Quiet fan

Pictures look a tad soft ; Pricier than some of its 1080p competitors ; Large and bulky

It's a big and bulky machine, though, so it'll be hard to place in the average home, and it's not as bright as some of its rivals. As the images aren't quite as sharp as those on some similarly priced 1080p machines, it doesn't quite get the full...

JVC DLA-HD1

The JVC DLA-HD1 is one heck of a projector, with the best blacks I've yet seen. Detail is exceptional and shadow detail is better than many displays can manage. Aside from the frustrating menu system, I'd be very happy living with this puppy.

Product Specifications

The JVC DLA-HD1 is a full HD front projector with a native contrast ratio of 15, 000: 1, a level that ensures outstanding black reproduction without sacrificing picture brightness since there is no iris mechanism. The high native contrast ratio is achieved through the combined use of a new 0.7-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) D-ILA device and a new optical engine. Like all D-ILA-based JVC front projectors and rear projection televisions, the DLA-HD1 uses three D-ILA devices - one each for red, green and blue color reproduction. It offers a 2x zoom lens, a lens shift mechanism, and front fan intake and exhaust for placement flexibility, so its use is not limited to a dedicated home theater room. In addition, the ultra high pressure mercury lamp is easily accessible from a side panel.
