Take control of the fastest sports game on earth - NHL 2003. Whether you're skating as a rookie or lacing 'em up as a pro, pull off 90-mph slapshots and awesome moves with Dynamic Deke Control. Never before have you had this much control over the stick and puck. Show off your superior skills and earn rewards like the Game Breaker, which puts your opponents in slow motion as you blow by them for the open shot. Torching speed and pulverizing action will get any sports fan fired up. NHL 2003...

Ice Hockey is a game little seen over on these shores however it is still quite popular and even if you don't like the fast paced action of the sport there's still a few good fights to go round.
This is a true hockey sim. You control every aspect of the game and to some this may seem a little too much detail. If you don't understand the draft system you may find yourself a little lost as there is no real explanation. It plays great though and...
There is a real sense of control over the team in every respect not just on the ice but for non-hockey fans it may lose its appeal quickly.

There are only a few improvements to help distinguish it from NHL 2002, but these changes further increase the realism of what is considered the best hockey simulation on the market.

There was a time when there were a lot more PC hockey games to choose from--when you could pick a serious simulation, an action-packed, arcade-style game, or even a text-based strategy game. Yet even a half-dozen years ago, one game stood head and...
NHL 2003 is the latest edition in this series, and it continues a long-standing tradition by offering just enough in the way of improvements to warrant at least a cursory glance from past customers. If you've never played NHL and consider yourself even...

A new hockey season has just started, and that's a cue for the next game in EA Sports' NHL series to hit the shelves. The NHL series has always delivered an unparalleled simulation of hockey on the platforms it's been released on, and each year's...
With that said, you're not crazy if you think NHL 2003 looks like last year's version at first glance. There are only a few improvements to help distinguish it from NHL 2002, but these changes further increase the realism of what is considered the best...

The greatest danger that sports games face is avoiding the perception that they're only statistical upgrades of versions that came before it
Manual puck control is a great addition; Can be as realistic or arcadey as you want; Announcing returns; Solid control
Getting the settings just right can take some time; Needs a practice mode

Does NHL 2003 impress like Tampa Bay, or disappoint, like Toronto? God, I never thought I'd be saying those words.
Great player models, an admirable framerate, and nicely modelled stadiums make for a great visual experience ; Fantastic sound, music, and on-ice effects ; Tons of options, modes, and sliders add variety
Simplistic gameplay ; Aggravating controls ; The commentary
For those of you who are just getting into the sport or want a fast experience without the nuances of setting up your power play, pinning players against the boards, and other seemingly boring aspects of the game of hockey, you’ll probably enjoy NHL...
The game is fast, easy to get into, and offers an excess of modes and options that will keep the experience fresh. However, if you can’t stand the pain of watching a player like Bob Probert split the defense, and perform a one-handed deke that would...
