Metal Gear Solid HD Collection PS3 Review

There is always an air of trepidation when a HD collection of older titles appears on the horizon. We can't help but pray that what we fondly remember as an awesome gaming experience has not been lost in translation when brought into the current market.

Great HD Visuals ; Superb amount of content for the price

Some effects have not translated well with the HD conversion ; Control method may feel restrictive

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection PS3 Review

Until Metal Gear Solid came along, sneaking about was hardly commonplace in gaming. The release of the game back in 1998 was very highly anticipated, and the game proved to be something very different with its sneaky gameplay and detailed storyline....

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection offers a collection of three games, each of which are distinct from one another, and updates them into the HD era. The Metal Gear Solid series is one that is treasured by many, with a fan base that fell in love with the...

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Until my European launch model PlayStation 3 died last year while I was reviewing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the HD re-release of PS2 games were only a mild curiosity for me. After all, I had the original games and could play them upscaled to 720p, so...

Bluepoint have treated the games in the HD Collection well, bringing them visually up to current HD standards, without ruining their original art style. Time, however, has seen the gameplay age less well, making the games feel odd compared to their...

Metal Gear HD Collection Review: The Best Stealth Action Anytime, Anywhere

Some of the most important stealth-action games of all time in one impressive portable package.

A few weeks ago, after realizing I've bought no less than five different versions of both Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, I took to Twitter for feedback. Was I the only person guilty of re-buying these games so often? I've owned the original releases, the...

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

It's hard to review a 'HD Collection', because the games within have already been released for several years, so story and gameplay wise, it's all been covered by now. In the case of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, these games have been more than...

Graphics update makes the character models and back grounds much smoother ; New achievements added to game are hilariously named and oddly specific ; Nostalgia factor is incredibly high, and with 3 games in one collection, it is worthy of the title

Mechanics are convoluted and sometimes frustrating to use ; Lacks any real form of tutorial (predominantly in Snake Eater) and you are thrust straight into the action ; Why no original Metal Gear Solid

Again I'll say: It's hard to review a 'HD Collection'. In the end, a person's experience will be shaped by their original views on the game. For a person like me, who had only watched her older brother play the games, it was a novelty to try them...

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection review…

It's so easy to dismiss the recent rash of HD re-release collections by banging on about what they ultimately are: cheap and easy. Publishers take a quick glance into their back catalogue – not very far, as most have been PS2-era – add some upscale...

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Review

HD Collections are becoming commonplace in the current games industry. Halo, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider and most notably The Ico & Shadow of Colossus Collection are just a few of the series that have made the transition from the previous generation....

Colonel Campbell telling the player to "turn the console off, you've been playing too long" near the end of MGS2.

You ought to buy this for the Snake Beater achievement alone (get caught by Otacon “stimulating” yourself)…

Three great MGS games. Need we say more?; MGS3 looks damn sexy in HD; Substance and Subsistence; New online support elevates Peace Walker to a new level; Metal Gear 1 and 2

minus a few of the old favorite mini-games
