Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Nintendo Wii review

Long-time rivals Mario and Sonic may have buried the hatchet recently with their Olympic outings but there's still a spirit of competition between the two mascots. Sonic has taken to the track before in an effort to out-drag his adversary, but can this...

The jaunty visuals, feature-packed track layouts and incredibly entertaining gameplay

The somewhat disappointing online modes and the lack of originality

While Sonic and chums trail a distant second to Mario, this racer is still worthy of recommendation if you're keen to burn some rubber on your Wii

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

Smooth controls and a bunch of awesome tracks make this an exciting kart racer.

Tight controls with a great sense of speed ; Well-designed courses with lots of variety ; Good mix of characters, from the popular to the obscure ; Racing against friends, online or offline, is a blast ; Great visual style with a steady frame rate

Online play is limited to just racing ; No way to play through Grand Prix with a friend

Sonic And Sega All-Stars Racing

Boasting perhaps the longest ever name for a mainstream video game title, Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo Kazooie is the sort of game you'd think would have been made years ago. Instead, it's only really in this HD generation that the spiky...

24 racers to select from (plus Avatars/Miis) ; 24 courses too ; Don't forget 64 missions ; Cool drift turbos ; Fun, lag-free online multiplayer

Not overly original ; No additional online modes other than just racing ; Samba de Amigo courses are headache-inducing

Sonic and Sega Racing ultimately provides a decent alternative to the previously Mario dominated realm of themed racing on the Wii, while PS3 and 360 fans finally have a reason to ditch that little white box gathering dust in the corner.

Race around some stunning tracks with your Sega favourites.

Visually pleasing game; Simple but effective controls; Missions are fun but challenging

Online mode is slow
