Rock Band 2 (Wii) review

Harmonix still does plastic instruments and colour-coded gameplay like no other...

Rock Band 2 is not a game, it’s an event. There are few more exciting experiences to be had on the Wii, and the broad selection of music, modes, and instruments means there is literally something for everyone. A definite must-own, no matter who you are.

Rock Band 2 Review

Rock Band revolutionised the music game genre. However, with so many sequels available, how much does this title improve upon it's predecessor?

Huge song list ; Online Band World Tour ; Better Single player progression

Too conservative ; Very hard last tracks ; No new instruments in Europe yet

"Rock Band 2" has managed to pull off something that I guess almost no-one expected- an improved experience over last year. Over twice as many songs ship on disk as last year, and online world tour is here.

Rock Band 2

Harmonix's sequel isn't just a case of "better late than never," it's a case of just plain better.

A sequel that gives Wii owners a nearly identical experience to that on more powerful platforms

Rock Band Music Store not up at review time; platform-specific calibration issues

Cthulhupalooza

Cthulhupalooza brings a Rock Band contest, the Call of Cthulhu movie, and Darkest of the Hillside Thickets show together to help raise money for Child's Play Charity!

Sadly, the Rock Band contest was a contest of skill, not just awesomeness, and the judges stuck to the rules - denying The Skeletor Experience Featuring Meatbags their rightful place among the final four. Curse you He-Man!

Rock Band 2

Still top of the charts, even if it does feel more like an encore than a whole new album

Plays like an even better dream ; Ridiculously huge track list ; You can use your old gear

Not a huge leap forward ; Can't hold as many songs as 360/PS3 ; Online store is a big question mark

But you know what? We’re okay with that, at least for this year. We’re thrilled that Harmonix didn’t try to fix things that weren’t broken and add in silly things just to add bullet points on the box – the original Rock Band was nearly perfect already....
