Rage of the Gladiator

Ixthid, I'm getting you out of here buddy. As much as I hate to play the “If you like game x, then game y” game, it's a pretty sure bet...

High production values for a WiiWare game ; WiiMotion Plus support ; Varied cast of opponents

Cheesy dialog/script ; RPG elements should be more fleshed out ; Geared toward an early teen audience

Rage of the Gladiator

That's legit, aside from the not playing the game. Not writing about those elements, however, was a conscious choice as I felt it was more important to focus on the mixed response that the game elicits.

The ability of a clearly low-commitment, fairly low-budget game made primarily for a younger audience, to keep you invested in the gameplay for so long is troubling, but also a pure expression of the original joy of gaming.

Rage of the Gladiator is one of the better games WiiWare games out there. It takes the Punch-Out!! concept and turns it from a boxing game into a sword and sorcery first person fighter. The story is generic as all get-out, and it’s definitely rough...

Cave Story

Imagine a game that was created but never released during the classic era of early console gaming. It has the side-scrolling platforming and upgrades of Metroid, patterned bosses that rival the early Ninja Gaiden titles, and music that stands toe to...

In Rage of the Gladiator, each boss has unique abilities and powers that you need to pay close attention to. Exploit the weakness of each enemy by jumping, dodging, or shield blocking with the proper timing and agility. Then unleash your rage by...
