Mario Party 8 (2007)

Eight years ago, Hudson’s first foray into digital board games brought to life by Nintendo’s brightest stars and a myriad minigames set the beloved N64 alight.

Mario Party 8

Another year, another Mario Party. Now we've reached the eighth game in the ever popular series, Nintendo fans should know exactly what to expect; a slew of simplistic yet amusing four player mini-games strung together in a board game metaphor…

Mario Party 8

By Susan Gray (cubed3.com)

Yes, it's being dragged out again, so much so that even the cat doesn't want to do the honours. People have always used the MP series to fuel the "Nintendo is for kids only" fire, and the (over) use of casual mini game fun on the Wii is not doing much...

Apart from the wii controls and the board changes, there's not much new to report in the next installment of Mazza party. Graphics and controls are solid, but apart from the fact that you can swing about to move your character, there's not much new...

Can this newest installment break away from this conveyor belt of continuity?

Mario Party 8 Review for Wii

By Tom Orry (videogamer.com)

Mario Party 8 for Wii Review - Mario Party 8's core gameplay is dull, the mini-games uninspired and the presentation severely lacking. One all but the hardest of Nintendo fans should avoid.

Mario Party 8 (Wii) review

Award: Family Choice

More Mario minigame mania – like the Wii hasn't had enough

More of the same, but we’re bored of the same. Still, if you’re not already Partied-out, there are a few laughs to be had.

Mario Party 8

By Tom Ramsbottom (gamebosh.com)

The board game format has been rather a hit and miss affair when it comes to consoles but the Mario Party series always gets the recipe for fun just right. You play as Mario, or one of his friends, in a 3-D board game where you throw the dice to move...

Good graphics ; Variety of games ; Good with multiple players ; Highly addictive

Games can last a LONG time

The mini-games on their own (and there are 65 of them) are worth the price of this game, but the Party Tent is fantastic (as mentioned before, the Donkey Kong board is the best). There's plenty to keep you and your family busy for days, and it...

The design is exceptionally well thought out and like all Mario adventures, it looks great. With a choice of difficulty on each section and up to four players playing at once this game really covers all the bases. It's disturbingly good.

Mario Party 8 (Nintendo)

Multiplayer gaming at its finest, Wii remote used in a variety of fun ways

Graphics are nothing special, some mini-games are a bit 'iffy'.

If you're a social gamer, you owe it to yourself to buy this. Still the best party game on the block.

Mario Party 8 (Wii)

The minigame masters at Hudson have long since proven they know how to produce gameplay that's bite-size and easy to digest. Mario Party, the video game franchise that eats like a board game, has now arrived on the Nintendo Wii for the first time with...

The move to the Wii could've been a great time to revamp the series, and while many of the minigames make sound use of the Wii's unique controls, it's ultimately just more of the same Mario Party.

Mario Party 8 (Wii) review

By Ryan Davis (cnet.com)

There are some good minigames in Mario Party 8, but the overly familiar, chance-heavy board game wrapper gets in their way.

Mario Party had been the only persistent minigame franchise for years, and Hudson got a little too comfortable because of it. The fact that there are more interesting minigame collections out there now, like Rayman Raving Rabbids, puts that laziness in...

If you've got the patience to dig past the skill-free board game portions of Mario Party 8, there are some genuinely inventive minigames to be played. The point, though, is that you shouldn't have to dig at all.
