A great choice for audio nuts, this portable media player shows the iPods of this world how it's done.

Excellent sound quality and now-rare audio recording features make the Cowon J3 a top buy for sound quality enthusiasts. However, navigation's not particularly intuitive and the additional "app" style features are gimmicky.

Media player with good quality audio/video playback. But can it beat the iPod Touch?

Good display quality, good audio quality, plenty of audio customization options, expandable memory, built-in loudspeaker, DivX, XviD, FLAC playback, FM radio with recorder, incredible battery life, Bluetooth stereo headphones support

A fabulous portable media player that improves on its predecessor in most areas. It's pricey, though.

All told, the J3 is an impressive bit of kit. It's better than the S9 - nippier, slicker and expandable - and, if you don't mind the extra size, a better all-round player than an iPod touch or nano. It's a little pricey, but we have no hesitation...
