The Archos 7 Home Tablet is the latest Android device to roll off the assembly line of the French company, bringing with it 7-inches of touchscreen love. This time Archos is pushing the device as a "home tablet", a third screen for entertainment,...
Price, large screen, microSD card expansion slot for memory
Poor finish to screen, poor materials used in construction, lack of access to all the benefits of Android, AppsLib seems buggy, no volume controls, can't charge via Micro-USB
So you have to see the Archos 7 Home Tablet for what it is. Given the right source, it is a capable video player and the freedom to expand the memory via microSDHC is welcomed as this makes it really easy to add content. The browser is good enough to...
But an all-round entertainment device it is not and we didn't find the Archos 7 to be quite as compelling as we hoped

The Archos 7 Home Tablet is an inexpensive Android tablet meant for people who want to access (not create) media such as video, audio, images, email and web content, but don't have high performance expectations.
The Archos 7 performs a set of core tasks reasonably well, and comes at very reasonable price. On the other hand, the touchscreen is hard to operate, and you can't buy new apps at the Android Market. Many Android smartphones in the same price range...
People who want a low-priced Android tablet now may be happy with the purchase. However, we can't help thinking that you'd be able to get more for your buck from the spate of new Android tablets that will hitting the shelves in the coming months. The...

If you've ever wanted a home cinema system that you can carry with you, Archos has the answer.
The best portable movie player around, albeit one that's too big to be carried anywhere and everywhere on a regular basis. Unfortunately, the touchscreen interface and additional features don't quite measure up.

This Archos is impressive for watching movies on-the-go, but optional and costly extras should be included as standard.

The Archos 7 is impressive in terms of performance, and an absolutely killer device for watching movies on holiday. If you want all the features it can offer, however, you're going to have to pay extra. And if you want to utilise its TV capabilities,...
In a device that's this costly to begin with, that angers us. At around US$638 for the 320GB model, then US$18 for each of three codec bundles, and then US$59 (and upwards) for hardware add-ons to enable advanced features, no matter how impressive its...

The Archos 7 Home Tablet is very carefully named. That “home” part is Archos' attempt to distinguish the affordable Android offering from a rather more famous slate. At £129.99 compared to £429 for the cheapest iPad, the Archos 7 Home Tablet looks like...
Crisp video playback and range of supported formats
Unresponsive touchscreen and limited range of apps
Though it packs in plenty of functions for a dirt cheap price, the Archos 7 Home Tablet's flaws outweigh its strengths

Straddling the divide between smartphone and laptop, this affordable Android tablet is considerably cheaper than the iPad at just £129.99. As the name suggests, it's designed to be used as a digital hub for your home.
The Archos 7 has a solid build, with a mainly plastic casing and a brushed aluminium back to add a touch of style
The resistive touchscreen can be an annoyance, compared to super-responsive capacitive screens and needs a good prodding to get going. It also runs Android 1.5, so the browser has a tendency to crash
There's no denying that the Archos 7 packs in a good list of features for the price, but the restrictions of its aging OS and the slow screen are a definite annoyance.
