Just bought the 160Gb in Black - Love it.

By peterbkk (asia.cnet.com) Read the full review

Brought it home, plugged it in, waited a couple of hours to load up my 60 Gb music collection and started using it. Plugged it into the iceLink Plus in my car this morning and listened to some great music on the drive in to work.

Great styling, Works Simply, No hassles, Stores lots of music

Can't think of any.

Apple iPod classic (80GB)

By Donald Bell (asia.cnet.com) Read the full review

The iPod classic is a refinement of the formula that put the iPod on the map. Few can match its combination of storage capacity, battery life, and advanced user interface.

The iPod classic is just like the Video iPod, only slimmer, tougher, and injected with a more visually rich graphic user interface

Video output requires a proprietary cable ; audio quality has not improved ; some older iPod video accessories may not be compatible ; users are required to use the latest version of iTunes, which may not work on some older computer systems

And the chrome found on the back cover still begs for smudges

Apple iPod classic 80GB

The newly image-led interface is excellent, and this model is the slimmest iPod ever

Elegant and easy to use ; Superb value ; Simple interface

Small screen ; Format restrictive

The move to a metal rather than enamel faceplate finally rids it of its age-old susceptibility to severe scratching. If only this would adopt the 16:10 screen and touch-sensitive interface of the iPod and iPhone, and then, format support and resolution...

It wins on capacity and interface, but for video watchability it's dragging its heels

Apple iPod classic review

By Nate Lanxon (cnet.co.uk)

Apple has not only exceeded our expectations, it's exceeded ones we didn't even have. The iPod classic is a superb audio player with a huge wealth of well-integrated features and intuitive navigation. Our only real concern is that menus can be laggy....

Capacity ; Design ; Good screen ; Cover Flow ; Use of album art ; High-quality video support ; Great games ; Handy search feature ; Sound quality ; Support for lossless audio ; Integrated podcast features

New main menu UI ; Have to use iTunes ; Navigation can be slow at times

Apple claims the 160GB iPod classic will keep blasting music for a full 40 hours, and video for seven; the 80GB model keeps going for a more modest 30 hours for music, five for video. Our lab tests will confirm or deny these claims, so check back soon....

You'll need to use the proprietary iPod USB cable to charge from your PC or go and buy an iPod mains adaptor from Apple

First look: Apple iPod classic

By Dan Frakes (pcadvisor.co.uk)

There's no getting around the fact: Apple's iPod line was in dire need of a refresh heading into this week's press event in San Francisco. And Apple provided that refresh in spades.

My hands-on time with the new iPod classic left me with a largely positive impression. It's less exciting than the nano in terms of its new appearance and fewer major feature upgrades. However, two of those improvements - considerably better battery...

Apple iPod classic (120GB)

By Nate Lanxon (asia.cnet.com)

120GB of storage and the addition of the Genius feature make up for the slightly reduced battery life over the previous model, reaffirming the iPod classic as our favorite portable audio player on record.

Huge capacity ; great sound quality ; support for high-quality audio and video formats ; decent screen ; integration with iTunes for music, movie and TV show downloads ; heaps of accessories available ; sturdy design

Only one capacity option ; lackluster EQ options ; weaker battery life compared with previously available classic

will always be more suitable for the gym, but for other purposes the classic's size and weight shouldn't be an issue
