Sometimes it is too easy to overlook Microsoft as an peripheral supplier. We look at their Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000. Starting with the wireless aspect, it is a standard 2.4GHz wireless setup, with a USB dongle. The dongle slots neatly into...
Left- or right-handed, good size, plenty of buttons, Flip 3D
Dongle doesn’t sit flush in base of mouse
Compact in design, but large enough to be your everyday mouse, the Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000 has plenty of features to meet your mousey needs
The problem with some notebook mice is that they are too small – great for saving space in the bag, but too small when you settle down to do some real work once at your destination. This mouse doesn’t suffer from that problem and sits neatly into the...

Ergonomic keyboard and mouse
Easy-to-adjust keyboard height and angle ; split keyboard design with raised centre makes for comfortable typing ; programmable quick-launch keys cut down on mousing ; unique mouse design keeps wrist at a neutral angle
Keys and scroll wheel offer too much resistance for ultimate comfort ; mouse is right-handed only ; inconvenient thumb-button placement
Though it may not offer much relief from clinical repetitive stress injuries, the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 will satisfy users who want a slightly more comfortable keyboard and mouse than the one that came with their computer

As usual, Microsoft puts together a good bit of kit. But is it good enough to beat the competition?
Standing on its own, the black and chrome Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 7000 is a very desirable piece of kit, and design-wise makes the perfect partner for those considering Samsung's T-range monitors with its transparent outer surround.

Microsoft has clearly thought about the needs of the media PC user when designing this set. It's made sure that good quality and ease of use are placed alongside great build quality and a host of features.
Great build quality ; Good value for money ; Bluetooth connectivity ; Lots of features

The keyboard uses Bluetooth rather than the standard infrared connectivity, which means that range is fantastic
Great build quality ; Good value for money ; Bluetooth connectivity ; Lots of features
The build quality of both items is what you might expect from a set that costs around £80, but if your media PC is the hub of home entertainment then the Entertainment Desktop 7000 is worth every penny

The Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 7000 is a pleasure to use
Comfortable to use ; Feels great ; Shortcut keys help
Pricey for some
All round a really nice desktop set, then. The price (around £70 or so online) might put some off, but really, if you find yourself typing away at your PC for long hours, this is a worthwhile investment

If it were bigger, the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000 could be a regular desktop mouse, which makes it easy to use, but not the best for easy travelling
USB receiver snaps into base ; Ambidextrous design ; Two thumb buttons ; Four-way scroll wheel
Fairly big for a laptop mouse ; USB receiver doesn't sit flush when stored in base
Unlike many of the other laptop mice we've seen, this model includes welcome side buttons for your thumb on the left and right sides, which most Web browsers recognise as the universal command for going back a page. You also get a feature almost never...
