Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 mobile phone review

By Chris Hall (pocket-lint.com)

There has already been a great deal of excitement surrounding the Xperia X1 from Sony Ericsson, as the company takes another foray into the world of smartphones. Can the company offer anything compelling, or is this just another Windows Mobile clone? ...

Screen quality, Panels, build quality, good headphones, 3.5mm jack, HSDPA, Wi-Fi

Keyboard not the best, Windows Mobile UI suffers against BlackBerry and iPhone

If you are happy with a Windows Mobile operating system, then the Xperia is certainly one to consider

Just announced are Facebook and Windows Live panels, so you can see how Sony Ericsson intends these to be used. Panels are the approach that Sony Ericsson have employed to tame Windows Mobile: music and video playback in Sony Ericsson’s skin is a much...

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

By Niall Magennis (trustedreviews.com)

Does the Xperia X1 have the performance to match its stunning looks? Niall takes a look.

We had expected great things from the Xperia X1. In terms of the hardware it certainly lives up to the hype as it's a great looking phone and packed full of useful features. However, the hardware is really hamstrung by the phone's operating system and...

At the end of the day when you pay a premium price (this is an expensive handset after all) you expect premium performance and the Xperia simply doesn't deliver that premium experience on the software side.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 is a well-designed and fully stocked smartphone that offers great customisation via its interactive panel interface. However, with its high price tag, the X1 is definitely a luxury item.

Interactive customisable panel interface ; Attractive design ; Full slide-out QWERTY keyboard

Expensive ; Navigation controls are difficult to use ; Web browsing experience isn't the greatest

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 review

By Andrew Lim (cnet.co.uk)

We really wanted to love the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 as it boasts an attractive design and features the iPhone 3G would be jealous of, but it runs on Windows Mobile and as a consequence doesn't deliver a great user experience. If only the Xperia X1 ran...

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 review

By Daniel Hessel and Mattias Kallman (pcadvisor.co.uk)

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 smartphone is without a doubt the hottest mobile from Sony Ericsson this year - find out why in this review.

On the whole, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is an impressive phone, and together with the HTC Touch Pro it's probably the best Windows Mobile-based smartphone so far. The cons here are its annoying slowness and the fact that Sony Ericsson in some cases...

Much of this criticism can be fixed, it's mainly about killing bugs and speeding up the software, but our long-term requests would be that the next Xperia phone takes better care of Sony Ericsson's strong heritage. Especially so, since it seems that...

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Review

By Editorial Team (recombu.com)

A unique panel-based interface adds a nice visual touch to the X1, featuring shortcuts to applications via grid or concertina.

While this phone is certainly well built and feels reassuringly solid in your hands, the typing experience - the cornerstone of any business phone worth its salt - is underwhelming. There's not much about the Xperia X1 that makes it worth recommending...

Review: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

By John Chan (asia.cnet.com)

The long-awaited Windows Mobile phone from the Swedish-Japanese company has finally arrived and we put it through its paces.

3.5mm audio jack; full set of connectivity features; GPS; good 3.2-megapixel camera; excellent WVGA display; nice design

Panel interface can be slow; camera interface and focusing slow; average battery life; optical joystick not particularly useful

The burning question is really this: How does it match up to the HTC Touch Pro? The X1 is just S$50 more expensive, but you get a higher-resolution display, nicer design and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Touch Pro, on the other hand, has a more polished...

If you ask us, the X1 matches up very well, indeed, especially considering that it's a first WM attempt from Sony Ericsson. If you don't mind the slight lag in the Panel interface and average battery life, what you get is a very capable Windows Mobile...
