Samsung Galaxy S8 Active review

Changing the best Android phone is a good way to spoil it

Battery life that forgives forgetfulness ; Beautiful, pixel-dense display ; A fantastic camera

Costs more than a standard Galaxy S8 with a great case ; 4K video is a lost cause ; Poor button and sensor placements

A lot of high-performance hardware held back by unfriendly UI and poor design choices. Only for AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile customers who want a rugged Galaxy S8 and can’t fathom buying a case, but can spend up to $280 extra.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active review

Confession: If it weren't for the Galaxy S8 Active's monster battery life, I'd tell you to buy the regular Galaxy S8 and a good case.

The Galaxy S8 Active has an all-day battery -- about 24 hours in our tests -- and has a sturdier body that’s basically a built-in case. It keeps the S8’s waterproofing and wireless charging.

Its flat screen isn’t as sharp as the regular S8's, and the S8 Active does away with the hardware buttons that helped give the original its identity.

The Galaxy S8 Active is a great phone, but if battery life isn’t your top concern, you’ll save money buying a regular Galaxy S8 and a case.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active review

The Galaxy S8 Active stands up to concrete, water, and whatever else you throw its way.

Durable design ; Long-lasting battery ; Speedy processor ; Great camera

Weak speaker ; Chunky looks

The Galaxy S8 Active is the Galaxy S8 in different clothing — perhaps a waterproof, shock-resistant vest. For the most part, it’s uncompromising. On the inside there’s the same processor, storage, sensors, and radios as the S8, and Samsung has taken...

Your less breakable Galaxy S8 with a 24-hour battery is here

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active takes the best phone of the year, makes it tougher, and packs in a bigger battery. It's the ultimate rugged phone—but it's only available on AT&T.

Rugged build. Gorgeous screen. Best processor and modem available. Long-lasting battery.

Not available on carriers other than AT&T. Some bloatware.

For a $100 premium over the standard S8, the Galaxy S8 Active gets you more battery life and increased durability. If you're looking for a phone that can stand up to abuse and doesn't compromise on performance, it's your best option and our Editors'...
