Has Palm tackled the problems of the much-vaunted Palm Pre in this update?

Palm Pre Plus review

Does the Pre Plus do enough to justify a re-release?

Great OS ; Improved keyboard ; More RAM ; Better memory ; Enjoyable gesture bar

Not a lot of improvement in two years ; Sharp rim ; No Facebook chat ; Hard to reach power button ; No turn-by-turn navigation

One year ago, the world was awaiting the arrival of the first Palm Pre, like a foretold saviour from the boredom of smartphone monotony. This would be the handset to truly grasp the 'iPhone killer' title and run with it, but that plan didn't quite come...

When a handset gets a refresh just 6 months after its UK launch, you have to wonder whether or not it got it right in the first place. Needless to say that hasn't stopped Palm launching the Pre Plus, a successor to the Palm Pre. But is it any good and...

Build quality, battery life, sluggish performance

There are four main problems with the Palm Pre Plus, and to us they are all major disadvantages.

Palm Pre Plus

The update to Palm's much-lauded Pre handset has been a long time coming, but at last the Palm Pre Plus is here. But with the smartphone landscape greatly changed over the past six months, the Pre Plus has a lot to do to prove itself a worthy contender

Palm Pre Plus review

Even so, the subtle hardware tweaks make it an overall improvement from its predecessor the Palm Pre. Some quirks remain, however, with the keyboard design and the sluggishness of the software.

If you're looking for a smaller and less expensive alternative to the Motorola Droid you will be pleased with the Palm Pre Plus. The hardware improvements and future software upgrades should boost its appeal - especially among the latest crop of...

Palm Pre Plus review -

Intuitive OS, syncs Facebook and email contacts and calendars, fast web browser

Sparse app store, dated design, sharp edged keyboard

Palm Pre Plus Review by 3G.co.uk

Verdict

Pros: The OS is intuitive, Synergy is an effective way to sync your contacts, calendar and messages, and the web browser is super speedy.

Cons: The design is outmoded, the keyboard has nasty sharp edges and the apps store is understocked.

A year ago the Palm Pre bowled us over, but the Pre Plus has a dated design and very few added extras and doesn’t really hold its own next to the latest superphones like the Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire. The sync features that were innovative last...

Palm Pre Plus review

A decent smartphone with double the memory of the original Pre

Decent compact touch screen; great multi-tasking; double the memory and storage capacity of the first Pre

Lack of apps; no auto-correction while typing; no hotspot application

The Palm Pre Plus isn't wildly different to the original Pre, and is more of a service pack release. Not much has changed other than the doubled memory size for storage and running applications. Holding back the webOS operating system is a lack of...

Extra memory only real change from original Pre

Decent compact touch screen smartphone, great multitasking ability, double the memory and storage capacity of the first Pre

Lack of applications, missing auto-correction while typing, missing hotspot USA application

its fortunes at CES 2009 by announcing not only a mobile phone operating system but also a brand new handset, both of which were a significant change in direction from past form. The Palm Pre caught the media's attention, as besides producing a decent...

Palm Pre Plus review (Verizon)

We review the Palm Pre Plus, Palm's marginally-revised webOS smartphone for Verizon Wireless

webOS ; Beautiful design and form ; More internal storage than Sprint's Pre ; Ships with rubberized inductive back cover

More RAM didn't help webOS lag at all ; Keypad is a bit cramped ; Doesn't ship with a Touchstone dock, despite shipping with the appropriate battery cover

Just like the Palm Pre, the Pre Plus is a fantastic modern smartphone. WebOS could very well be the most intriguing smartphone OS on the market and it really is a joy to use if you can get past the occasional lag. If Palm decides to step up its game...
