Orange Monte Carlo review

Can Orange's new low-cost Android handset match the San Francisco?

Large screen ; Capable processor ; Good media streaming ; Good battery life

Screen hard to see in bright sunlight ; Low resolution video recording ; No Flash support ; MicroSD card fiddly to get at ; No bundled headphones

When Orange released its San Francisco, we were bowled over. It was a great handset for a budget price, and it continues to be the standard by which we evaluate any Android phone that hovers around the £100 mark.

A great screen belies this handset's low price - poor battery life aside, it's an impressive budget handset

ZTE Skate Review: In Depth

It's fair to say that the ZTE Blade, or more accurately the subsidized and re-branded Orange San Francisco, took the low-end of the phone market by surprise. A 3.5” 800x480 AMOLED display bundled…

Decent screen ; Improved build quality over Blade/San Francisco

Expensive ; Sluggish performance ; Poor battery life

Orange Monte Carlo budget Android smartphone

Review If during the last 12 months you wanted a cheap but decent prepaid smartphone there was really only one choice, the Orange San Francisco. But now its big brother is in town – the Orange Monte Carlo.

The Orange Monte Carlo is not a phone for playing games or watching video, trick call technology, slick UI and decent battery life it is worth every penny of its asking price. Yes I'd like more system storage, a glass screen and a Cortex CPU but that...

Orange Monte Carlo review: Diddly price, massive phone

The Orange Monte Carlo – also known as the ZTE Skate – has been on our radar ever since Mobile World Congress in February. As the follow up to the spectacular Orange San Francisco, 2010′s bargain bin phone of the year, we were expecting great things at...

150 for a 4.3-inch screen. Wow

Orange spamware

A fantastic bargain, although the large screen size can't but help create expectations it can't live up to

Orange Monte Carlo Review

Following on from last year's San Francisco, Orange have finally released its long awaited follow up. The Monte Carlo continues the tradition of offering fairly solid midrange hardware at a comparatively bargain basement price. In this case the stakes...

I’m conscious that the tone of my reivew has been slightly negative and that wasn’t my intention. I’ve been using my Desire S to make comparisons and I’m aware that this isn’t really fair as it’s twice as expensive. Overall I’ve been very impressed...

Orange Monte Carlo

Fantastic 4.3" screen, large range of apps already installed. Plays youtube etc flawlessly with no juddering or buffering (using wifi). Compare to the price of an iphone4 - this was £120 !! For the money it is a fantastic phone.

Low battery life (due to the huge screen) Keyboard is not the best Not as fast as a high smartphone. Orange branding on phone and apps

Orange Monte Carlo

Decent screen size. Easy to figure out how to use. can swivel on both sides and the speed on the internet is good. Android version has a lot of improvements over 1.3. Does what I want it to do and very reasonable price for me. I love that I can have it...

not many of these. the position of the on switch means sometimes it's vulnerable to being put on when wretling it out of a pocket -but that's true almost anywhere.

Orange Monte Carlo

Clarity of screen Unexpectedly good battery life for a smartphone Excellent clarity of sound on phone calls

On/off switch might be easier to operate if placed at top end of phone, rather than the side
