Moto Z3 Play review: The last stand for Moto Mods? | Trusted Reviews

Moto Z3 Play review: Out now in the UK after an earlier US release, the Moto Z3 Play is an excellent device with support for Moto Mods.

Moto Mods are still brilliant ; A simple Android experience with genuinely good tweaks ; Very fast charging

Weak battery life ; Expensive compared to rivals

Moto Mods are still magical but, head over heart, there are better options for the price.

Moto Z3 Play review

Motorola's mid-range is confused

Unrivaled modularity ; Good specs at good price ; Very fast charging

Uninspired camera ; Moto Z3 is superior ; Design letdowns

The Moto Z3 Play offers solid mid-range performance, a big screen, plenty of customizability thanks to its compatibility with Moto Mods. It’s on sale at a fair price, but it can’t compete with its slightly better, oddly cheaper sibling, the Moto Z3 if...

Motorola Moto Z3 Play review: Mods and odds

The Moto Z3 Play brings the series up to date thanks to an 18:9 aspect ratio display, but this model stands in the shadow of the Z3 proper - which is

Mods can have their advantages: battery packs are particularly useful ; 18:9 aspect ratio display helps bring the Z-series into the present ; Battery pack included in the box

More powerful network-locked Z3 is cheaper (but not available in EU) ; Can't compete with the likes of OnePlus 6 ; Mods make for a bulky phone ; So-so camera setup

Motorola Moto Z3 Play review: Moto Mods madness

Motorola's latest mid-range handset isn't the most powerful, but with Moto Mods it could be an incredibly versatile device

Fair price ; Highly modifiable ; Magnetic battery pack

Camera bump is unsightly ; Not major upgrade from Z2 Play ; Headphone connector does not work

Moto Z3 Play

The Z3 Play starts Motorola's third year of Moto Mod compatible phones. Its time might be up as design restrictions become apparent and its best features get worse

Moto Z3 Play hands-on review

A super-thin phone with good battery life? Motorola's Moto Z3 Play might just deliver.

Strong battery life claims ; Speedy performance ; Mostly stock software ; Mods still work ; Super-thin

Big camera bump ; Earpiece is the only speaker ; No headphone jack

Motorola Moto Z3 Play

The Motorola Moto Z3 Play keeps the dream of Moto Mods alive, but doesn't deliver any stunning new features.

Works with all existing Moto Mods. Rich AMOLED screen. Elegant software build.

Awkwardly priced. Average processor.

The Moto Z3 Play has plenty going for it, including solid overall performance, a capable camera, and support for Motorola's useful modular backs. Unfortunately, it runs into the same problem as the One Plus 6—the US just doesn't have a market for $500...

Motorola Moto Z3 Play review: the thrill is gone

Blue phone blues

Sleek design and premium build quality ; Great software additions ; Works with Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile

Thin design leaves little room for battery or headphone jack ; Fingerprint scanner is awkward to use ; Battery life is below average, adding a mod makes the phone big and unwieldy

The Moto Z3 Play feels like a baseball team slogging through the last couple of months of play, knowing that they need to finish the season but also knowing they won’t end it with a trophy in hand. Motorola committed to supporting the design of its...

This phone's battery life lasts for two days

Moto can't fight the OnePlus 6 without slashing this phone's price.

The Moto Z3 Play comes with an extra battery pack that gives it two-day battery life. Its take on Android 8.0 Oreo is a pleasure to use, and the fingerprint sensor on the phone's right side is easy to reach.

It's not water-resistant, and there's no headphone jack. It looks outdated with the mod on and costs about the same as faster phones with better specs.

The Moto Z3 Play's two-day battery life is great, but at its current price, it can't compete with the OnePlus 6.

Moto Z3 Play review: 2018's MotoMod Starter Pack

Full, in-depth review

Surprisingly good battery life ; Larger display with thin bezels

Lacks waterproofing and headphone jack ; MotoMod ecosystem seems to be stagnating

The Moto Z3 Play is yet another MotoMod-enabled smartphone, with all the strengths and shortcomings that title implies.
