REVIEW: Motorola i580 iDEN clamshell

With the ongoing onslaught of music-centric handsets in slick, shiny casings, the Motorola i580 is quite different from the rest of the pack. Boasting military-grade resistance to water, dust, and shock, this is one rugged business-minded phone for...

Strangely though, this phone does come with a fair bit of multimedia functionality. The integrated 1.3 megapixel camera takes some pretty decent shots, all things considered, especially if you make use of the LED floodlight (which “pulses” when you...

Nextel i580

In a nutshell, the Motorola Nextel i580 is the world's toughest multimedia phone. It makes reliable phone calls, plays MP3s like a boom box, and shrugs off shocks that would destroy lesser phones. It's expensive, but worth the price.

Nearly indestructible. Triumphant sound quality. MP3 player

Very durable, Very pleased

Pictures could be better but camera technology has come a long way since the Sony Mavica. Cell phones just don't take 7 mega pixel photos. All in all this phone was one of the best flip phones I ever owned. I'm clumsy and drop things a lot. This phone...

Extremely durable. Has micro SD card slot, internet, texting, mp3 player, the works.

No major complaints, but wish it had a better camera.

very good phone, i like it

If Nextel is known for one thing when it comes to cell phone design, it's the rugged durability of its handsets. Models such as the Motorola i35and the i530 are built like tanks, with thick protective skins designed to withstand the elements and...

cool is cool

All that ruggedness requires some trade-offs, however. At 3.8 by 2.2 by 1.1 inches and 5.1 ounces, the phone is big and bulky. It won't slip into a small pocket and will leave a sizable lump in a bag, but it feels comfortable to hold. That's all part...

Great phone, lousy coverage

I used this Motorola i580 for years, passed up many chances at upgrading the phone, but the service coverage was poor and unaccaptable for traveling. I wish this phone was supported by AT&T, my new cell phone provider. Oh well, maybe Motorola will...
