Review: Huawei Mercury

If you already have an iPhone, a Galaxy Nexus or some other head-of-the-class smartphone in your pocket, the Huawei Mercury isn't the phone for you....

Plastic battery cover feels cheap. Limited video codec support: no AVI, DVIX, XVID. Camera is confounding

Huawei Mercury (Cricket Wireless) review

Trickle-down economics is alive and well, especially when it comes to the prepaid market, where no-contract carriers like Cricket can offer phones like the Huawei Mercury. The Mercury first wheeled into our CNET offices as the Huawei Honor , and the...

The Huawei Mercury has Android 2.3 Gingerbread, an 8-megapixel camera, a front-facing camera, a 1.4GHz processor, and good call quality.

Battery life doesn't live up to expectations on the Mercury, you have to remove the battery each time you access the microSD card slot, and data speeds are pokey. The glossy plastic material is a smudge magnet.

With its dual cameras, strong processor, and attention to camera detail, the Huawei Mercury tops Cricket's charts for a non-Muve Music smartphone, but insatiable Web surfers may still want to shop around.

Huawei Mercury (Cricket Wireless)

The Mercury's 4-inch glass capacitive touch LCD screen has 854-by-480-pixel resolution, a notch above the more common 800-by-480. It looks sharp and bright, and I had no problem typing on the on-screen keyboard. Since this resolution is also used by...

Good call quality. Sharp display. Nice camera. Terrific plan value

Limited video codec support

The Huawei Mercury is the best prepaid smartphone in America right now.

Huawei Mercury Ice Review

Huge brands such as ESPN and Best Buy have tried and failed, but that isn't enough to stop Radio Shack from taking their cuts at the MVNO game. While their service is not limited to smartphones, their “unlimited” data and music offerings are certainly...

Camera can take good pictures in the proper conditions ; At $150 with no contract, the price is right

Touchscreen is unresponsive at times ; Still running Android 2.3 ; The plans don’t offer a compelling reason to sign up with Radio Shack

In the end the Huawei Mercury Ice is a rather unspectacular phone; its performance is sufficient but the operating system outdated and call quality suspect. At just $150 with no contract the price is right, but in the growingly competitive pre-paid...

HUAWEI is the worse cell phone manufacture on the market. Within a few months of usage, all the features start becoming unusable, until the point the touch screen stop working and you cannot even unlock your phone. If you are lucky and your phone is...

"PC Editors have it ALL wrong"

Well, this makes the 3rd Mercury I have been on and once again the screen has issues where I have to touch it 3 or 4 times to get a response. I have had an android phone in the past and this phone has really made me hate android and the Huawei brand....

I AM MORE MAD AT THE CRICKET STORE AS WELL AS THEIR CORPORATE STORE THAN ANYTHING. HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO GO TO A CORPORATE CRICKET STORE? IT IS WORSE THAN DMV AND THE EMERGENCY ROOM COMBINED. I BOUGHT THIS PHONE JUST 3 WEEKS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED WHICH...
