Huawei Mate S

The Mate S is Huawei's latest attempt to replicate its success in China in Europe and the USA.

Great screen ; Impressive performance ; Sleek design

Force Touch is a waste ; EMUI skin is awful ; Dodgy battery life

Huawei Mate S review

Its biggest claim to fame is also its biggest flaw

Premium design ; Excellent fingerprint scanner ; Feature packed camera

Emotion UI still hit and miss ; Force Touch availability unclear

Hands on: Hands on Huawei Mate S review: may the Force Touch be with you

Or at least that's the idea, but it's not quite as simple as that.

Decent screen ; Fast fingerprint scanner ; Force Touch technology

Interface is childish ; Elusive 128GB model

Huawei Mate S review: Yes mate!

Over the past year we've seen the rising tide of Chinese smartphones. As established companies like HTC and Sony Mobile have reported some difficulties, the likes of OnePlus and Xiaomi have stolen headlines. There's a lot to love about the Huawei Mate...

Good display, fingerprint scanner and shortcuts, Force Touch, some great software additions

A little heavy-handed with Android in the UX which leads to some odd looking results

There's a lot to love about the Huawei Mate S. We like the finish of the metal body and the slimness that Huawei has achieved. The display, although not being the highest resolution out there, offers great visuals and, on this particular model, offers...

Huawei Mate S Premium review

An Android handset with Force Touch. So can it match the iPhone 6s?

Good camera ; High-quality design ; Future-gazing tech ; Loads of storage

Pressure sensitivity is very limited ; Expensive ; Battery life not great

An interesting look at the future of Android, but one with limited appeal out in the real world

Huawei Mate S review

At IFA 2015 in Berlin, Huawei announced its latest smartphone: the Huawei Mate S. It looks gorgeous, and offers some pretty interesting features. We've been using the Huawei Mate S for over a month now, and here are our thoughts, along with its spec,...

The Huawei Mate S is a very promising phone. Its design is beautiful, it’s lightweight and it fits perfectly in our hands despite the 5.5in display. The custom Android UI takes some getting used to, but it offers something different to the standard...

Huawei Mate S review: Style and camera skills but at too high a price

Although the Huawei Mate S can take great photos, and looks good doing it, its high price is difficult to swallow.

The Huawei Mate S takes sharp photos, it has enough power for everyday tasks and its metal design look and feels great.

It's too expensive, Huawei's custom Android is messy to use and the pressure-sensitive display is a pointless addition that adds nothing to the overall experience.

Though Huawei's flagship Mate S has classy looks and a great camera, you can find better-performing top-end phones for less money elsewhere.

Huawei Mate S review

Huawei's new Force Touch-packing phone is metal, slim and almost an iPhone killer

Gorgeous hardware just kept off the top spot by a dated screen and slightly-sub-Samsung screen.

Huawei Mate S Review: In Depth

Huawei Mate S Review: Last year we met the Ascend Mate 7, then earlier this year the P8 and IFA 2015 has given us the Mate S another...

Premium materials ; Strong camera feature set ; Beautiful design

Convoluted UI ; Expensive vs Honor 7 ; Missing key flagship features ; Lacklustre video quality

In a nutshell the Huawei Mate S plays itself off as a serious contender in the big-phone space and as such it doesn’t come cheap, with prices starting at £469 for the base 32GB model. However aspects like camera quality and battery longevity fall short...
