When a brand-new product gets announced with just a brief mention of the specs and not much else, I would normally assume that it wasn't going to be much good. But that can't be said for the Huawei G8.

Chunky, heavy build ; Questionable interface

Huawei is a master at churning out quality mid-range handsets and the G8 is no exception. It's a fuss-free smartphone with a decent feature set.

If you haven’t gathered by now, let me make it clear. I absolutely love this phone. If I had to change one thing, I would put vanilla Android on it, but even without that experience, it is a great phone and definitely worth your top dollar.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to get the best smartphone you can for your money. When midtier price points include such great options as the Motorola Moto X and Nexus 5X, a phone with an unimpressive design and overbearing Android skin gets lost...

The fingerprint scanner on the back of the GX8 is a nice, premium touch on an otherwise standard-fare phone.

Thanks to its bland design and a terrible software overlay, the phone feels frustratingly subpar.

The Huawei GX8 tries hard to be relevant, but it does a few too many things wrong to beat out the competition.
