Huawei Ascend Mate 2

Hands-on at CES 2014: The 6.1-inch smartphone beast that can charge up your gadgets

Currently, there are no details on UK pricing, but we anticipate it to fall into the same £350 price bracket as the original making it cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It should make for an affordable alternative to Samsung's big phone, but we...

Huawei Mate 2 Review

We've seen the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 when it was first announced during CES 2014. It was a great event, and the phone was well received by the audience since it is a device with a humongous battery capacity, along with a clear intent from Huawei to...

Huawei Ascend Mate2 review: No-contract, low price phone that lasts forever

Summary: Huawei launched their first phone selling directly in the US with the Ascend Mate2 and it is quite compelling at a low $299.99 unlocked, no-contract price.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G LTE Review

Huawei's 6.1-inch Ascend Mate 2 4G LTE offers a big display and nearly 15 hours of battery for just $299 without a contract, making it a strong value.

Affordable no-contract price; Incredibly long battery life; Doubles as device charger; Big and vibrant display

Relatively low-resolution screen; Interface can feel cluttered; Camera struggles in low light

Huawei's 6.1-inch Ascend Mate 2 4G LTE offers a big display and nearly 15 hours of battery for just $299 without a contract, making it a strong value.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Review: Incredible Battery Life & Value

While there's some level of choice for high-spec, high-value smartphones at the ~5" display size segment, the same is far from true for phablets. The Galaxy Note line is generally considered to be the only phablet worth looking at, and there really...

I'll have to admit here that coming into the review, I wasn't expecting much - not from the Ascend Mate 2 and not from Huawei itself. After all, while Huawei was making some interesting smartphones as an OEM outside the US, it remained an ODM in the US...

Huawei Ascend II (U.S. Cellular) review: Huawei Ascend II (U.S. Cellular)

It's been a long time since I first laid eyes on the Huawei Ascend II, last spring at CTIA. Compared with the original Huawei Ascend , it's much sleeker and more modern, and, of course, it runs the much more recent Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

The Huawei Ascend II has an appealing, compact design, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It comes with a microSD card preinstalled and the price is great.

Unfortunately, the Ascend II is saddled with a slow processor, a mediocre camera, and disappointing battery performance.

The Huawei Ascend II comes at an unbeatable price for an Android smartphone, but the trade-off is getting lower-end features that sometimes underperform.

Huawei Ascend II (U.S. Cellular)

The Huawei Ascend II is only a modest refresh over the original; if you're willing to spend a bit of money, you can get a much better smartphone on U.S. Cellular.

Inexpensive. Comfortable to hold and use. Decent display.

Sluggish performance. Lots of bloatware. Poor camera.

Multimedia, Camera, and Conclusions The Ascend II has 146MB of internal memory, along with a 2GB microSD card; my 32GB and 64GB SanDisk cards worked fine as well. Thankfully, the phone has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack this time around, which makes...

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Review

Big phones are giving smartphone companies some banging business, as many consumers have ceremoniously adopted the notion of owning these gargantuan sized things. Huawei entered the foray last year with its Ascend Mate, but this year's successor brings...

The best battery life on any smartphone out right now ; 299.99 outright cost is a bargain ; Camera is pretty good at taking photos ; 4G LTE connectivity is finally in tow

Design is rather boring looking ; Display resolution is rather low at 241 ppi ; Video recording quality is disappointing

Concurrently marking this special occasion, where the Ascend Mate 2 is Huawei’s first smartphone to feature wide band 4G LTE support, the phone is being treated to royalty by being sold through Huawei’s US-centric online shop. Impressively, consumers...
