RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 smartphone

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 has similar specifications to RIM's flagship BlackBerry Bold 9700 but in a more compact design.

Fast to navigate, same capabilities as more expensive BlackBerry handsets, impressive specifications, SureType software is excellent, unbeatable e-mail service, optical trackpad

Less sturdy than RIM's Curve and Bold series, glossy keyboard is slippery and keys are cramped, small display, awkwardly mounted media controls

We were impressed that RIM's BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 offers the same capabilities and functions found on more expensive BlackBerry smartphones. The trade off comes in the form of a smaller, pocketable form factor, resulting in a cramped keyboard,...

RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 (AT&T)

Research in Motion updates its venerable, lightweight Pearl with a faster CPU, sharper screen, and 3G, but it still feels like an older (if very good) smartphone.

Svelte and stylish. Lightweight. Great voice quality. Responsive interface. Excellent music playback.

SureType keyboard isn't for everyone. OS feels old. Few third-party apps. Too expensive given the feature set.

Multimedia, Camera, and Conclusions The microSD card slot underneath the battery cover works with 32GB cards. My 16GB SanDisk card worked fine, and there's also 125MB of free internal storage. The standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack is a boon for music...

BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 review

We almost thought RIM had retired the Pearl, as the company had not released a new one for almost two years. But it turns out we were wrong; RIM announced its latest Pearl earlier this year. The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 looks very similar to its...

The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G is a slim and compact smartphone with features like Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G support. It has external media keys and the optical touch pad felt easy to use.

The SureType keyboard isn't for everyone, and we did find the media keys to be a little hard to press. Picture quality isn't as good as we hoped.

The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G is a great little global smartphone if you can deal with the unusual keyboard.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G (9100)

Smartphone

I've been a BlackBerry Pearl user for some years now, having had the 8110 since it was launched. Admittedly, even then its lack of 3G was a bit naff (BlackBerry was very slow to come to the 3G party) but I really liked the pocket-friendly form factor...

RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 smartphone review

The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 smartphone is designed to attract a similar audience to the Curve series of BlackBerry handsets. It differs mainly in its smaller frame, making it easier to pocket. Despite the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100's smaller...

Review: BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100

RIM stuffs its smallest phone with as many features as possible.

Much better display and trackpad ; Low price ; SureType still a great solution for a small phone ; Good (though not great) call quality

Some more advanced phones at its price ; Disappointing camera ; Slightly below-average battery

Design and the displayFor RIM, the Pearl was by far the most overdue for a makeover this year; much of its design had been unchanged since 2006. To unveil the 3G, then, was a real breath of fresh air, and it shows in the design. Apart from bein

Blackberry Pearl 3G (9100)

The Blackberry Pearl 3G is a candybar-type phone aimed at first time smartphone users. It has the same processing power as the Bold 9700, has Wi-Fi 802.11n built-in, and has dedicated media keys to keep you entertained while on the go.

Good form factor; Powerful processor; Wi-fi 802.11n; Dedicated Media keys; Form factor; 3.5mm jack; Camera with flash; Good Telstra coverage; Attractive price point

Condensed QWERTY may take some time to get used to; Heavy users will only get one day's worth of battery life
