Amazon Fire TV

Amazon Fire TV review: this upgraded flagship streamer with 4K Ultra HD and Alexa Voice Remote is great, but you'll still need Prime to make the most of it.

Snappy operation ; Stable connection ; 4K and HDR ; Slim and sleek design ; Simple UI

Amazon content takes priority ; No Now TV ; Must use bundled AC adapter

Amazon’s little black box of wonder is back and better than ever.

Amazon Fire TV review: simply unbeatable value for 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos support

Alongside the Chromecast Ultra, it's great value for 4K HDR support - but you'll probably need Amazon Prime

Plenty of content ; So well priced ; Alexa works very well

You really need to have Prime

Amazon Fire TV vs Apple TV review

Amazon and Apple's streaming boxes battle it out for a space under your TV...

Amazon wins on picture and sound ; Apple has better voice search ; Amazon has more apps and UHD video ; Amazon features USB and MicroSD

Apple TV more expensive ; Typing is a chore on Apple

For ease of use, higher speed, lower price and the wealth of content - not to mention UHD video - this is an easy win for the Amazon Fire TV

Amazon Fire TV review

A great streaming media player, but Amazon is a little heavy-handed

Speedy operation Voice search Good performance and build quality

Voice search is not universal Amazon features strongly prioritised No bundled HDMI cable No USB playback

The Amazon Fire TV is mostly a success, but there’s still work to do. We love the speed and the voice search function, which genuinely makes operation a lot easier. What we don’t like is the price and app offering. For the money, we’d like more apps....

Amazon Fire TV review

The Amazon Fire TV aims to incinerate cable TV

Fast ; functional voice search ; Zippy operation and streaming ; Good games

Average video streaming qualit ; Sloppy library navigation ; No ‘must have’ video content

hcc best buy

Amazon Fire TV review

Faster than an Apple TV and thinner than a Roku, Amazon's Fire TV streaming player is a little box with big appeal. It's so good in fact, that it might make Prime Instant Video subscribers out of all of us.

Fast, attractive user interface; excellent voice search; high-quality video streaming (broadband permitting); deep integration with other Amazon music and photo services

Limited catch-up; media streaming functionality dependent upon apps

Amazon Fire TV review

Watch out Apple TV – Amazon's box is a smarter variety of streamer

Simple setup and UI ; Good AV performance ; Compact, tidy design

Voice search limited to Amazon content ; Occasional remote lag

Powerful, flexible and user-friendly, Amazon’s box has staked a spot among the streaming elite

Amazon Fire TV review

When we first encountered the Amazon Fire TV and wrote our original review, it was a US product only. Since then though it has made it onto the UK market too and, with hindsight and time on its side, the UK version has implemented some of the things...

Beautifully designed, impressive voice search, fast and powerful, open to third-party services, original in-house games available

No HDMI cable included in the box, voice search only works with a few services, needs more of the main broadcaster apps

We rather liked Amazon Fire TV both sides of the pond. However, it has a lot of very capable competition too. And that will only increase when Google releases its similarly Android-based Nexus Player.

Amazon Fire TV (2017) review

A tiny 4K and HDR streaming box

Great design ; HDR support ; Future proof with Dolby Atmos ; Good price

Lack of Dolby Atmos content ; Volume control missing from remote ; Not as much 4K content as Apple TV

The Amazon Fire TV (2017) is the latest version of Amazon’s streaming box, and comes with a fantastic new redesign, plus support for 4K HDR content and Dolby Atmos soundtracks.

Amazon Fire TV 2016 with 4K Ultra HD review

The Amazon Fire TV is a good media streamer with great app and gaming support, but Amazon Prime subscribers will benefit from it most

A year of Amazon Prime, which brings with it access to Prime Instant Video, is currently £79 but also has the added benefit of expedited shipping and the Kindle Lending Library for eBooks. As well as Instant Video, and the ability to rent and buy newer...
