Is this the best convertible laptop - i.e. one with a 360-degree hinge - that money can buy? HP gets the basics right, while the spec is top notch too

Great deep-action keyboard ; Very small footprint ; Strong 360-degree hinge ; Excellent build quality

Lacks the in-body stylus stashing of some new models

This is one of the best convertible laptops money can buy. It's the one to get if you value a high-quality keyboard and a small-footprint design that fits into smaller bags easily.

The original Spectre x360 saw HP assert its strengths in the laptop market. It was, and is, one great looking, great functioning laptop . For 2016 it's gone one better for the refresh by incorporating a 13.3-inch OLED panel into the design.

HP Spectre x360 review (late 2016): HP's best hybrid hangs onto its last USB port

 

Like the new MacBook laptops, the HP Spectre x360 sacrifices ports for a thinner body.

The new HP Spectre x360 is a durable, stylish and light machine with a comfortable keyboard, touchpad, long battery life and a crisp backflipping touchscreen. Extras include excellent speakers, USB-C charging and Windows Hello face login.

Only one full-size USB port. No HDMI output or SD card slot. The fan is noisy and spins up frequently. The size tradeoff doesn't justify the missing features.

The new HP Spectre x360 is an excellent laptop with a lot to offer in a small package, but it's only incrementally better than the previous model, and leaves out some useful features.
