Apple MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (15-inch, 2017) review

I'll start off with the good news. If you splurged on one of Apple 's very expensive high-end 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops when its big redesign was launched in the fall of 2016 , you're not going to feel especially put out by this modest mid-2017 update.

The updated 15-inch MacBook Pro gets faster processing and graphics options. It's still the biggest and most-powerful laptop Apple makes. The giant touchpad is easy to use and battery life is excellent.

Having only USB-C ports can be a hassle. The super-flat keyboard is an acquired taste.

Even if you're not sold on the idea of the Touch Bar, this slightly updated MacBook Pro is still the king of high-end laptops, especially for the creative class.

Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch (2017)

This year's MacBook Pro is similar to last year's model, adding slight improvements in speed and major battery life improvements to the iconic design. If you're willing to pay the premium, it's the best large-screen Apple laptop yet.

Sturdy, sleek aluminum build. Beautiful display. Four USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3. Excellent Category-leading 15-hour battery life.

Pricey. Competitors offer a 4K screen for less. Only USB-C ports, making adapters for legacy peripherals a requirement. Shallow keyboard.

If you're not an Apple adherent, the 2017 Dell XPS 15 Touch is pretty slick in its own right, and is simply faster and more fully featured, only lacking in battery life comparatively. It costs significantly less as tested, and on top of that, delivers...

Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro (2017) review: Performance boost delivers better value for money

Apple's June WorldWide Developer Conference had more than its fair share of product announcements, including the forthcoming iMac Pro and HomePod smart speaker. But perhaps a more important long-term development was Apple's belated discovery of virtual...

Expensive ; Limited to 16GB memory ; No user upgrades or repairs ; USB-C connectivity only

Apple MacBook Pro 15 (2017) Review and Ratings

This year's 15.4-inch MacBook Pro is the best distillation yet of the Apple experience, both good (exquisite design and hardware/software synergy) and bad (pricey, too hip for legacy ports). Scrooges will say humbug, but creative pros will swoon.

Elegant design and software integration ; Awesome battery life ; Four Thunderbolt 3 ports

Shallow keyboard ; No USB 3.0 or HDMI ports or SD card slot ; 16GB RAM ceiling ; Windows rivals offer 4K screens for less

After fully recharging the laptop, we set up the machine in power-save mode (as opposed to balanced or high-performance mode) and make a few other battery-conserving tweaks in preparation for our unplugged video rundown test. In this test, we loop a...

APPLE MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar - Space Grey (2017)

I have everything Apple and this MacBook Pro has enhanced my collection. It's easy to use, packed full of innovative time saving apps.

It's a bit expensive but you pay for what you get.

2017 Apple MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar, Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Radeon Pro 560

WOW this laptop is BRILLIANT. I have been a Windows user for a long time I should have moved to Apple sooner.

Excellent!!!

Definitely a case of 'you get what you pay for', another excellent Apple product, well worth the extra investment, seamlessly integrates with our other apple devices.

Ultra smart with good functionality; just two small niggles

I switched to Apple products from a Sony/Windows Laptop and had used Windows all my working life...with increasing frustration. So, after a bit of hesitation I bought a high-spec iMac a year ago and more recently added this top end MacBook Pro so that...

Dream machine.....

I've been working in IT for many (30+) years and in all that time I've been a loyal Windows user ...not because I didn't like Apple but simply because the price difference always pushed me towards the Intel/Windows platform. But finally I've grown...
