Apple MacBook review (2016, 12-inch): The best ultraportable around

The Apple MacBook is faster and has a lengthier battery life than its predecessor, and its an ultraportable you'll just have to splurge on

As good as last year’s model was, I felt like a really needed an excuse in order to justify buying one. This year’s model, however, with its better battery life, faster storage and quicker CPU is a laptop that needs no such vindication. If portability...

Apple MacBook (2016) review

In October 2016, Apple updated its laptop portfolio, delivering an overdue refresh of its 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros . Considerably slimmer and lighter than their predecessors, the new models come equipped with larger Force Touch trackpads and...

The 12-inch MacBook gets a decent boost to performance and battery life, while keeping the same slim, light premium body. The high-res display and responsive trackpad remain the gold standard. Color options add a fun bit of personalization.

The single USB-C port will continue to be an inconvenience for many. The shallow keyboard isn't ideal for long-form typing. Other super-slim laptops manage to fit in more powerful processors.

With a handful of subtle improvements, the updated 12-inch Apple MacBook is more of a mainstream machine, but remains a few tweaks away from being the best laptop on the market.

Apple MacBook Leopard review

Introduced in the fall of 2006, the current version of Apple's 13-inch MacBook laptop was a revolutionary product, combining Intel's Core 2 Duo CPUs with Apple's much-lauded operating system. Add in Apple extras such as the iSight camera, Front Row...

Upgraded CPU for the same price; same great design; Leopard operating system.

Still no Express card or SD card slots; only more expensive models are available in black.

Apple has been content to issue minor periodic hardware updates to the 13-inch MacBook, but the modest performance gains and new Leopard OS keep it in our top tier of laptop recommendations.

Apple MacBook review

The latest iteration of the tech giant's flagship laptop, the Apple MacBook fine tunes its predecessor with improvements to the battery, shaving off some casing and - wait for it - introducing a new rose-gold option. Read on to see if it's worth...

Apple MacBook (2016)

The insanely sleek 12-inch MacBook is still the lightest Apple laptop, but competing Windows laptops have caught up in thinness, weight, and screen quality.

Gorgeous, thin build. Weighs less than 2 pounds. Retina Display. 11 hours of battery life. Excellent-sounding speakers. Available in four colors including Rose Gold.

Limited connectivity with a single USB-C port, and no adapters are included. USB-C is not Thunderbolt-compatible. Shallow keyboard and Force Touch trackpad take some getting used to. Internal upgrades can only be made at initial purchase.

Aside from the new Rose Gold option, the new MacBook is visibly unchanged from last year's model, though its new Skylake-based processor improves benchmark performance a bit. But battery life takes a hit due to that faster CPU. You can't deny the sleek...

Apple MacBook (2015)

The 12-inch Apple MacBook is the thinnest, lightest Mac laptop yet, combining the power of OS X with extreme portability and more than 14 hours of battery life.

Incredibly thin. Weighs less than 2 pounds. Excellent battery life in testing. Retina Display. Great-sounding speakers. Available in three colors.

Only one USB-C port, with no adapters included. USB-C is not Thunderbolt-compatible. New keyboard and Force Touch trackpad take some getting used to. Can only be upgraded at initial purchase.

Conclusion The Apple MacBook is certainly an excellent choice if you travel frequently and want to run desktop apps instead of settling for mobile versions. It's lighter and much slimmer than the latest Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch, and its battery lasts...

Apple MacBook 2007 Model review

Editors' Note: This review primarily covers the recent updates to the Apple MacBook line. For a detailed look at the design and features, read our earlier review of the Apple MacBook (Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz) .

Upgraded CPU for the same price; same great design; built-in Webcam and remote control; adds 802.11n support.

Cutting-edge features are absent, including Intel's new Santa Rosa platform and LED-backlit displays.

Apple's rightfully popular 13-inch MacBook gets a decent incremental upgrade, but we're still looking forward to the next version.

Apple MacBook 2006 Model review

Now that the high-end MacBook Pro has Intel's Core 2 Duo CPU, it's high time the latest processor technology filtered down to Apple 's more consumer-friendly MacBook line. There are three MacBook models, one with a 1.83GHz CPU and two with 2.0GHz CPUs....

Cheaper than the MacBook Pro, with nearly comparable performance; great design; built-in Webcam and remote control; can run Windows XP via Boot Camp.

No ExpressCard slot or FireWire 800; lacks media card reader; only 90 days of toll-free technical support.

The new MacBook, updated to Intel's Core 2 Duo CPU, compares very favorably with Apple's high-end MacBook Pro line, offering premium performance at a reasonable price.
