Microsoft Wireless Media Desktop 1000

By Seth Barton (expertreviews.co.uk)

Here are some things you won't find with every budget keyboard and mouse set: easy-to-follow setup instructions, batteries from a manufacturer you've actually heard of that might last more than ten minutes, and a helpful note on the USB receiver that...

Keenly priced, tightly packed. Cheap for a big brand desktop set, but the keyboard feels unnecessarily cramped.

Ably supported by these extras, the stars of the show are a compact keyboard and a cheerfully old fashioned looking mouse, both wireless, along with that all-important radio frequency receiver to let them talk to your PC

was intended. The keys do have a pleasant feel, though; the action is soft and provides just the right amount of feedback. With a short travel, they make very little noise

Built to withstand a cuppa. Tougher than the average keyboard, but not necessarily better.

Review: Microsoft Wireless Desktop 2000

By Nachiket 'therapist' Mhatre (techtree.com)

Good hardware, bad design.

Excellent BlueTrack sensor; AES Encryption; Silent, short-throw membrane keys; Great operational range; No interference; Virtually lag-free; Wide range of Windows optimised function keys; Jitter-free mouse; Wristpad; 6-key rollover; Great value for money

Crazy scroll wheel; Unergonomic; Lacks proper key spacing; No indicators for toggle keys; Requires a steep learning curve

Microsoft Wireless Desktop 2000

By Vincent Alzieu (digitalversus.com)

Data communicated between the USB transceiver (connected to your PC) and the keyboard is kept completely confidential thanks to 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Security) encryption, a system that the US National Security Agency apparently considers...

Data encryption between USB transceiver and keyboard ... even if it's not as useful as you may think ; 121 keys (compared with 107 on a basic keyboard) ; Comfortable, high-set mouse, suitable for left- and right-handed users

The bulky USB transceiver isn't great for notebooks ; No buttons on the sides of the mouse ; Glossy keys and upper casing soon get grubby ; No rechargeable batteries ; Not really suitable for gamers

The Microsoft Wireless Desktop 2000 keyboard and mouse disappointed us on three counts. First of all, the data encryption function isn't as useful as you may think. Second, the keyboard is too noisy and doesn't have some of the attractive features...

Microsoft can therefore encrypt the signal as much as it likes, but you still won't be fully protected from some kinds of data theft.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Comfort Edition

By Chris Pickering (pcreview.co.uk)

You would be hard pressed to find a more comfortable wireless optical desktop kit inside that price bracket. The comfort, combined with the stylish design, and the ease of use means that this piece of kit comes highly recommended indeed.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Comfort Edition

By Aalaap Ghag (techtree.com)

Almost nothing I raved about in the earlier keyboard/mouse review (the Microsoft Optical Desktop with Fingerprint Reader) applies to this new Comfort Edition and almost everything I liked about it, is gone.

Wireless, soft and smooth fake leather wrist pad, beautiful mouse, nice price

Function keys mess, page nav six-pack mess, arrow keys triangle is lodged under the shift key, no LED indicators, comfort curve not all that comfortable, zoom is less useful than it seems

Once again, I find myself hitting the End button instead of Page Up and Delete instead of End. If this was all the vice that they had put back into the keyboards, I'd still give it a fair enough rating. But the list doesn't seem to end. In fact, we...

3.5 is still quite a respectable rating for a keyboard/mouse, especially when it comes from me. Just like Ameya is hard to please with speakers, I'm the force to reckon with for keyboards and mice

Control panel for Windows Media Player.Buttons can be reprogrammed by user. Bad points:Needs four AA batteries.Still needs a cable for the receiver. Overall:Nice, but we're not sure that wireless devices are a must-have just yet.
