It was two years ago we were first introduced to the Sony MDR range, headed-up by the self-proclaimed "prestige" MDR-1R headphones. We had to hand it to Sony, though, despite sounding almost pompous they were very impressive over-ears, delivering...

Really comfortable for long-term listening, great sound throughout the frequency range - from deep bass through snappy high-end, spatial soundscape delivers engaging listen

Loose fit won’t suit smaller heads, can slip slightly during wear so driver positions won’t engage high-end frequencies as well, simple carry case

We've been testing headphones back-to-back for a number of weeks and have found the Sony MDR-1A to be the most immediately comfortable and gratifying over-ears straight out of the box.
