Sennheiser HD 800 S

 

The Sennheiser HD 800 S are the company's most expensive headphones you can buy off the shelf. No, we haven't forgotten about the £30,000 Sennheisers Orpheus HE1060, which cost a "small" fortune, but they can't be found on the high street.

In the HD 800 S, Sennheiser has tamed the HD 800 to create one of the best set of headphones ever.

The HD800S are an incredible set of open-back headphones that'll delight audiophiles

Expansive soundstage ; Sonically brilliant ; Comfortable

Expensive ; Need to be paired with the right amp ; Lack that mid-bass punch

Sennheiser has a knack for open-back headphones and, given the success of its former flagship, the HD 800, the newer HD 800S are the new king of the castle. These cans are among the best, if not, the best open-back dynamic driver headphones money can buy.

Sennheiser HD 800 S & HDV 820 – a £3500 combo

 

You may remember in August of last year, we published an article looking at three 'entry level audio Got a lot of cash to spend on some new audio gear? We look at the HD 800 S and HDV 820

Beautifully detailed treble that is not at all sharp or sibilant.

It is £1399.99.

It is not a cheap headphone/amp combo by any means – but the HD 800 S paired with the HDV 820 makes for an absolutely incredible sonic experience.

Easy to drive with almost any amplifier, but correct partnering will unlock their full capabilites.

The Sennheiser HD800 S is an update to one of the most iconic headphones released in the last decade. £1,199 is a lot of money, but compared to some of the ‘flagship’ competition they seem almost bargain basement.
