AKG K 702 Review

Let's end this week with another famous name: AKG and their reference-class K 702. Our opinion about its little brother, the K 271, was pretty balanced: it has a very detailed high-end but a too weak low-frequency range. What about the K 702?

With a swanky headphone amp, these reference quality, open-backed headphones create a sound to rival hi-fi speakers ten times the price. Got more dosh? Try the supremely revealing Sennheiser HD 800s or breathtaking Grado GS1000is.

AKG K 702

The AKG K 702 headphones offer a super comfy, over-the-ear design; they sound great at home and with iPods, and come with a detachable headphone cable.

The AKG K 702 headphones don't come with a travel bag or storage case.

The AKG K 702 Open Back Dynamic Reference Headphones offer an ultracomfortable way to enjoy sound that is remarkably more open than most sets; they're like personal speakers for your head.

AKG K702 HEADPHONES

The AKG K702 are great, comfortable headphones for critical listening but are mediocre for everyday casual use. Their open design doesn't block any noise and leaks enough to be distracting. They're not made for commuting or to use at the gym but are...

Great audio reproduction. ; Comfortable design.

Open-back design, they leak a lot. ; No ambient noise isolation, by design. ; Big and bulky headphones.

Super comfy, over-the-ear design ; Great sound ; Comes with a detachable headphone cable

Doesn't come with a travel bag or storage case ; Expensive

Sure, the AKG K 702 is an expensive set of headphones, but the sound is near state of the art, only bettered by much more expensive headphones like the Sennheiser HD800. The K 702's creamy soft ear pads are so darned comfy it is easy to forget you're...

AKG K702 Review

The AKG K702 are great for making music. When you get your recordings to sound great on the K702, they are going to sound great on anything.

Pro-quality headphones

Experts say that the Austrian-engineered AKG K702 headphones offer the most detailed sound among under-$1,000 headphones. Some feel the Sennheiser HD 650s (*Est. $500) have a slight edge in the low end, while others argue that the AKG K702s are...

Excellent overall music quality, build and design quality, work well with low-power devices

Bulky, expensive, no carrying case

A solid pair of cans for music production and mixing

In my very subjective opinion, the k702s are great studio headphones for the price. The k702s have an open sound, very detailed in the mid-range. The highs might be a little "bright", but it actually compliments my studio monitors. The low-end is maybe...

-Durable -Great sound: Natural, revealing, and detailed sound -Great spatial sonic field -Detachable cable is always a plus for me -I got these for under $300, so pretty good deal compared to other headphone of comparable quality

-Kind of "fugly" and Bulky (if you care bout that) -Poor isolation & leak noise, not the best to use in public, but that's not what they're made for -Sort of inefficient as far as power, you'll need to drive these harder than other headphones
