Garmin Nuvi 1490TV

The Garmin Nuvi 1490TV is a satnav with a 5-inch super wide touchscreen, pan-European coverage, high detail City Navigator maps, subscription-free traffic updates and – in an unusual twist – a built-in Freeview TV tuner.

While most satnavs offer up 4.3 inches of screen real estate, the 1490TV delivers a full 5 – and isn’t any the heftier for it

As you might imagine, the Freeview tuner doesn’t work particularly well in more rural areas, even with both antennae hooked up and draped over your car seats. Also, if you’re planning a lengthy telly session, you might find the three hour battery life...

The Garmin Nuvi 1490TV doesn’t offer anything outstanding, but if you’re looking for a solid, dependable and easy-to-use satnav with the added bonus of Freeview TV, it ticks all the boxes.
