It kind of does what it is suppose to do. All the main functions work, which is most important. So nothing to talk about here.

navigating in menus are logical, pretty much does what it is suppose to do, elgant look, readable display, online Garmin Connect is a big plus

touchpad in wet/moist conditions, in-the-box software (especially map)

Garmin Forerunner 405 review

By Chris Hall (pocket-lint.com)

The Garmin Forerunner series has long been a firm favourite with athletes, with a strong fan base in runners and triathletes. The combination of heart rate monitor with GPS functions providing all the information you need to accurately monitor and...

Compact design, reliably hangs on to GPS and HRM signals, touch bezel and button combination works well

No software provided, price

The Forerunner 405 delivers on its promises, putting a whole range of data at your fingertips, but at a price. With fitness add-ons appearing for a range of devices you know that the Forerunner means business

The new generation of watch is a step-up in design from the somewhat bulky Forerunner 301. Gone is the oblong slab on your arm – the Forerunner 405 is more like a conventional watch than ever before, a refinement of the move made with the 305. At the...

The Forerunner 405 provides a wealth of facilities to help you monitor and guide your fitness training.

Once past the initial stage of learning, Garmin's Forerunner 405 provides a wealth of facilities to help you monitor and guide your fitness training on foot or bike. The Qstarz BT-Q2000 offers similar route tracking and pace capabilities for a lot...

So although the Forerunner is rather pricey, it's a uniquely powerful device and could give you that all-important edge when training.

This is mainly thanks to a touch-sensitive ring that keeps buttons to a minimum, but it's helped by a 124x95 dot-matrix LCD display that allows the 405 to display reasonably complex levels of information without having a large, multi-section display...

If style isn’t important to you, and pure ease-of-use is, the uglier, fully-buttoned Foreunner 305 or 205 might be a better choice. For cyclists, the Edge products are certainly a better option. But, we’ll take the 405 – it's a proper gadget.

The screen also has a user-activated blue backlight for running in the dark.

Manufacturer's Description

The Forerunner 405CX is the evolution of GPS-enabled training. This sleek sport swatch tracks your time, distance, pace and heart rate, then wirelessly sends the data to your PC for later analysis. The 405CX features heart rate-based calorie computation. Loaded with serious training features, Forerunner 405CX continuously records your time, distance, pace, calories burned and heart rate. Each workout is stored in large internal memory so you can review and analyze the data to see how you've improved. And advanced training features will challenge you to step up your pace - race against Forerunner's Virtual Partner to improve your times, or set up interval workouts without having to circle the track. You can even download recorded courses to compete against previous workouts. To use the watch, simply tap the touch bezel to change screens without fumbling for a button. Forerunner 405CX comes with a flexible, wireless heart rate monitor to help you make the most out of your training. The digital heart rate monitor continuously tracks heart beats per minute and uses your heart rate for advanced calorie computation, so you know how many calories you're burning. Train in a certain heart rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance on the same run.
