The Fitbit Force replacement wasn't really worth the wait

Automatic sleep tracking ; Bright, easy to view display ; Improved battery life

Limited smartwatch features ; Lacks inactivity vibration alerts

The Fitbit Charge is a solid, if not groundbreaking successor to the Flex that should stick to health and fitness and leave the smartwatch features to the smartwatches.

A fitness tracker that picks up where its New Year's recall left off

OLED displays stats ; iOS, Android, WP ; Auto-tracks sleep ; Caller ID works

Similar to last year ; Price unchanged ; Poor sleep accuracy ; Faulty clasp

Fitbit Charge replaces the Fitbit Force that was recalled last New Year's, and it adds features like caller ID and automatic sleep tracking to remain among the best all-around fitness trackers.

One year later, Fitbit Charge HR stands out as the best

The Fitbit Charge HR still lacks in-depth coaching, but its combination of features, size and price are unmatched...and if you find it on sale you should buy it.

Continuous heart rate tracking. Slim design. Affordable price. Works with Windows, iPhone and Android phones. Fitbit's massive popularity means you'll be able to join up and compete with friends. Connects with many third-party fitness apps. Automatic...

Design and fit aren't ideal for glancing at heart rate. Not shower or swim-friendly. OLED display turns off after a few seconds, which gets annoying. Heart-rate coaching and goal-setting isn't intuitive.

Fitbit's Charge HR combines heart rate tracking, sleep tracking and fitness into an affordable, slim band with good battery life. It's a hard combination to beat.

Fitbit Charge review: No heart rate, but everything else

The Charge is a good fitness band, but the heart-rate-tracking Charge HR costs only a bit more. You might want to spend up.

The Fitbit Charge has a comfortable design and a display for time and step-tracking. It gets call notifications and syncs automatically to a variety of phone platforms.

The forthcoming Charge HR adds heart-rate tracking and a better clasp for just $20 more; the Fitbit app is well designed but feels a little dated compared to the competition.

The Fitbit Charge is a fine replacement for the discontinued Fitbit Force, but you're better off waiting for Fitbit's heart-rate-tracking upgrade.
