Nintendo Wii

If you're lucky enough to get a Wii for Christmas, you're in for a real treat.

Farcical they may be, but new console launches are a staple of the industry and Wii represents something truly 'new' in an industry often criticised – not always fairly – for being unoriginal. It's exquisitely designed, superb value at £179 and,...

Nintendo Wii Preview

If you read my report from E3 you'll know that I'm pretty excited about the Nintendo Wii, and that excitement hasn't lessened over the months since the LA based gaming show. I had another chance to get my hands on the Wii hardware back in July, which...

Nintendo's little white box is determined to inject fun back into gaming ' but can it overcome the might of the PS3 and Xbox 360's next-gen power?

The most fun gaming experience ever. Motion-sensitivity better than PS3's tilt joypad. Great price. Sega classics available to download online.

Basic, standard-def graphics. No multiplayer online gaming. Not all games suit the format. No DVD playback.

Nintendo's little white box is determined to inject fun back into gaming – but can it overcome the might of the PS3 and Xbox 360's next-gen power?

Pure fun in a box. Get some friends round and swing your Wiimote until the early hours

Nintendo Wii review

Is the world's most playable console hampered by its hardware shortcomings?

Great playability ; included Wii Sports is compelling ; Unique controllers ; Easy-to-use menu system and media functions

Graphics can't compete with the Xbox 360 and PS3 ; Games still expensive ; Opera browser not included as standard ; Needs Flash upgrade ; Media functions could be better ; Poor battery life for controllers

The most playable console around - and very reasonably priced, too.

Nintendo Wii review

Nintendo's next-generation console is finally here, bringing significant advances to the gaming world. While it lacks the HD (high-definition) graphics, hard disk and Blu-ray Disc drive that distinguish the upcoming Sony PlayStation 3 (don't expect to...

Those looking for HD graphics and Blu-ray capabilities should wait for the PS3. But we think the Nintendo Wii, a fun console with a refreshingly different controller, will have a wide appeal – especially among casual gamers.

Nintendo Wii Console Review

The Nintendo Wii utilises a unique control system for unparalleled interaction with a wide range of innovative games. The ergonomic Wii remote uses a three-axis motion sensor to detect physical movement and translate them into control commands. Why...

The Nintendo Wii is backwards compatible with Nintendo GameCube media, allowing you to play your old favourites on your new system. It provides connections for up to four GameCube controllers and two GameCube memory cards.

Nintendo Wii

If you like to do exercise, throw, shoot, and twat things over the head, without actually leaving the confines of your lounge, then the Nintendo Wii is a really rather agreeable console.

Innovative motion-sensitive controller. Family fun for everyone

Alienates the hardcore fraternity. Only standard-def visuals

If it's good enough for Jamie Redknapp, then it's good enough for us. Just don't mention the lack of hardcore games.

The Apple TV seems the obvious choice when it comes to streaming iTunes to your telly, but games consoles provide an alternative. We put the main contenders through their paces.
