GoPro Karma review: GoPro's first foray into the world of drones was met with some turbulence, but now that things are flying steady is it worth picking up?

Simple to set up and fly ; Complete system in a backpack ; Good image quality ; Sturdy and well made

Short flight time ; Low transmission range ; No 'follow me' flight modes ; No obstacle detection or indoor modes

GoPro's first foray into the world of drones, the Karma was famously originally launched back in November 2016, but was recalled due to battery issues that were causing ‘copters to drop out of the sky. The problem now fixed, GoPro has recently...

GoPro Karma Drone review

The GoPro-powered drone you've been waiting for

Portable, fold-up design ; Total stabilization package ; Tight controls

Lacks collision detection ; Not-so-autonomous auto flight modes ; Short battery life

The GoPro Karma is so much more than a drone, giving you video stabilization in the air and on the ground. However, there are better quads floating around with longer battery life and smarter brains.

GoPro Karma drone review: Good things come to those who wait

It may not be as technologically advanced as its biggest competitor, but it is incredibly simple to control, and doesn't require a smartphone. It

Very easy to control ; Works reliably ; Consistent performance ; Smart flying modes

Not as technologically advanced as competitors ; No obstacle avoidance technology

It may not be as technologically advanced as its biggest competitor, the Mavic Pro, but the GoPro Karma is incredibly simple to control, and doesn't require a smartphone. It battles with the wind and wins, plus it's capable of supporting existing GoPro...

GoPro Karma review

Updated 28/9/17: GoPro's drone didn't quite hit the heights of its rivals, but an update should give it a lift...

A complete package in a slim backpack ; Handy Karma Grip accessory ; Simple flight controls ; Good build quality

No obstacle detection or indoor sensors ; Low transmission range ; No “follow me” flight mode ; Short battery life

A simple, all-in-one drone system for GoPro fans, but it’s still very much flying in DJI’s slipstream

GoPro Karma review: Solid approach with some downfalls

Captures fantastic video and photos but this drone provides an average flying experience

Fantastic video quality ; Backpack and Karma grip included

Lacks advanced sensors ; No object avoidance or tracking ; Not as compact as DJI Mavic Pro

And so, although it isn’t quite as flexible, given the choice I’d still opt for the Mavic Pro. It currently costs £200 less at £1,099, and is absolutely stuffed with the best and latest drone tech.

GoPro Karma hands-on review

It fits inside a backpack, zips through the skies at 60 km/h and shoots your adventures in 4K - what's not to like?

GoPro is a brand best known for its action cameras - but is its Karma drone one to add to your shortlist? It comes with a really nice backpack carrier case, but our review reveals whether or not this drone will fill you with confidence or trepidation...

GoPro Karma review: Great camera, so-so drone

Plenty of value here, but the GoPro Karma isn't the most sophisticated flying machine

That, in the end, is the main reason you’d buy a GoPro Karma. If you go for the whole package, including the Hero 5 camera, you’re getting an awful lot for your money. That’s a drone, the very best action camera in the business and a handheld motorised...
