Worthless

Maybe Toshiba has stock in factory recorded DVD's. Not worth 50 cents as a recorder.

Had decent playback of pre-recorded stuff.

Has SEVERE limitations on what it can record from. Looks to me like Toshiba wants our home copies to be the poorest quality possible. Can't even record from S-video cable and DvD's made that are in widescreen will only playback in letterbox.

No tuner

If you are purchasing a recorder and hope to ever record TV shows, this is not the one. It does have component video in, so if you plan to use it only to record off another DVD player, or some other device that has a built in tuner, then it might be...

Not able to use the device, so I cannot say. (See cons)

No tuner or cable input.

As advertised, and then some

I was shopping for a DVD recorder/VCR combo, but all the reviews of affordable units dismissed the VCR portion as tape-eating junk. So I decided to keep the Sony for playing/transferring tapes as it has yet to lunch on anything. Also kudos to Newegg's...

It does everything it says it will do, including -- contrary to another review -- recording DVDs that ARE playable on other systems. Just have to FINALIZE! I'm particularly happy with playback quality compared to the DVD portion of my circa 2004...

A second set of audio outputs would have been nice. With my setup, I had to use passive "Y" splitters, one to the LG flatscreen and the other to the Sony receiver. But that' picky for something at this price point. Also, the finalizing process is...

Read The Instructions Willy

If you record something off cable and it is available in standard and HD, record it in standard. That way it will fillup the entire screen on you HDTV or standard TV.

This recorder plays everything I've thrown at it. It even plays Movies I have burned on my computer that gave my LG Home Theater system problems. Everything I've recorded, from cable TV, plays like a champ in my LG system. Like the instructions tell...

Does not have an HDMI in. All the disc recorded from HD shows, show up with the black spaces at the top and bottom and stretch the picture wide. Not recording in true HD

After reading the other reviews ...

I checked recordings accross platforms once I received the RVR and unlike Willy's reviews I found no such limitations in recording or in playback in other machines as we have 3 other brands of DVD players and 1 other DVR and 1 other DVD burnner and all...

See my other review!

One note here, once you record a chapter (segment) to disk and erase the "TITLE" that space on the DVD is gone forever even before you finalize the DVD. This is not the case with a DVDRW!
