Playback is similarly excellent, and upscaling adds a slight improvement, with a tad more film-like quality to the image - but nothing like true HD
You can record on to any DVD - including dual-layered DVD-R and DVD-R discs...

We've owned a Panasonic DMR-EX85 in Australia for about 6 months and are very happy with it. The start up seems a little slow but, like computers, that's probably a feature of all hard drive machines. Having said that, in Canada we own a Sony DVD player...
Seems to ignore Region Coding ; Good range of functions
Some of the functions buttons seem to duplicate which makes things seem unduly complex ; Haven't yet worked out how to set regular daily, weekly, M-F, timer recording sessioons. These are vaguley referred to in the handbook but no detail is given

This is my first DVD Recorder and I think it is fantastic. Even my wife can use it... yes it's that easy too operate.

Didn't record a box office movie from Foxtel. I recorded the 1st 5 or so minutes then cut to adverts. (Although I think this maybe from Foxtels Side)
