Panasonic DVD Recorder-DMR-EX85

You get a massive 250GB hard drive, which can store 443 hours of programming

Good picture ; Impressive sound ; Editing options

No Pay TV option ; A touch pricey

Playback is similarly excellent, and upscaling adds a slight improvement, with a tad more film-like quality to the image - but nothing like true HD

Panasonic DMR-EX85

We've owned a Panasonic DMR-EX85 in Australia for about 6 months and are very happy with it. The start up seems a little slow but, like computers, that's probably a feature of all hard drive machines. Having said that, in Canada we own a Sony DVD player...

Seems to ignore Region Coding ; Good range of functions

Some of the functions buttons seem to duplicate which makes things seem unduly complex ; Haven't yet worked out how to set regular daily, weekly, M-F, timer recording sessioons. These are vaguley referred to in the handbook but no detail is given

Ease of use ; Great picture quality ; Nice fast switching of digital channels ; Good price for a 250GB

Didn't record a box office movie from Foxtel. I recorded the 1st 5 or so minutes then cut to adverts. (Although I think this maybe from Foxtels Side)
