Humax PVR-9200TB review

Expensive, but comes with plenty of bells and whistles

Boundary-pushing feature list

Only 80 hours recording capacity

Fast and feature-packed, this box offers great pictures and versatile socketry. It's smaller capacity makes it pricey, though

Humax PVR-9200T

Well equipped and easy to use, but now needs a hefty price cut to stay competitive

Smart looks; well built; easy to use; good contrast

Slightly soft pictures; colours can be overblown at times

Humax PVR-9200T v2 Freeview player

When we reviewed the original Humax PVR-9200T back in October 2006, we loved the functionality that it offered, giving an experience that was almost the same as having Sky+, but without the series link functionality. Overall, Humax have done a great...

Series link gives Sky+ functionality without the monthly subscription, dual tuners allow recording of one channel while you watch a 2nd, easy to use menus, excellent picture quality

The quality of the series functionality is only as good as the information transmitted by the broadcasters, so you sometimes miss the end of programs, slow EPG programming still persists

Overall, Humax have done a great job adding this functionality, not only to new purchasers of the PVR-9200T, but also to existing users of what is an almost two year old device.

Humax PVR9200T Personal Video Recoder

Those of us serious about getting the most from a home A/V setup will have undoubtedly invested in a Sky subscription by now. Those who can't afford the monthly outlay, don't want to pay it or have blown their cash on a 50” LCD can adopt the lite...

160GB hard drive for up to around 90 hours of recording, dual-tuner, very easy to use

No component output, DVD player or card reader, minus points for aesthetics

Priced at around £200, the Humax is reasonable value for a PVR with these sorts of features, and is a worthy investment if you’ll taken advantage of them. In comparison to a standard Freeview box you’re looking at paying around £150 extra for the...

Humax PVR9200T

It's also the only model here that bears the latest Freeview Playback 2 certification and includes useful features including auto buffering and schedule or overrunning sports events.

Records two channels simultaneously; CI card slot; ease of use; Bright, vivid picture quality

Comparably expensive; oversized design; lacks fine detail

Humax provide a Sky+ (plus) like box for those without Sky! : Humax PVR 9200TB

The Humax PVR 9200TB is the equivalent of the Sky Plus box for those of us that don't want to be tied to monthly subscriptions, but prefer the flexibility offered by FreeView.

It was with some trepidation that I plugged my very old TV aerial into the back of this Humax FreeView PVR. Having been on cable for the last 5 years with the aerial dangling in the garden I was expecting the worst! Luckily though the box sprang to...
