CNET did not review the DirecTV HR21 but we did review the HR20, which is very similar.
The HR20 and the HR21 share the same capacity for recorded shows, the same remote control, and the same features otherwise. For more information, refer to our full review of the DirecTV HR20.

clarity is good and that is about it
Everything. Went to delete a series and ended up deleting everything. My Tivo units have recently deleted function to recover. Herky jerky scroll is terrible and the remote is overengineered

Replay is often OK for the first several minutes, then becomes intermittent with sound and video cutting on and off making it about impossible to watch

Don't understand what all the negativity is about. This DVR records beautiful HDTV and has a huge storage drive. The convenience features are too numerous to list, but it does practically ANYTHING that you NEED. In 2 years have had NO problems
My ONLY complaint: does not have a decent SLOW MOTION mode
