Canon EOS 50D (Body Only)

By Franc (reevoo.com) Read the full review

Better grip due to larger body in comparance to the EOS 3-, 4- and 500 series ; The larger and 920000 piksel screen is a revelation ; ISO levels up to 12800 (H2) ; Three RAW sizes

Graining at high ISO levels is slightly worse then what I expected, although can be easely compensated with Adobe Lightroom

I have just upgraded from a 450d and I can say this 50d is real quality at a bargin price. It just feels right, for shooting horses showjumping it is great with just over 6 fps I never miss a good picture, the 450d just couldn't quite keep up. battery...

Had to buy compact flash cards as my 450d used SD's, no big problem though

Canon EOS 50D digital camera

Does this DSLR impress?

Excellent image quality, good ergonomics and build, menu system, comprehensive feature set and customisability, info panel, responsive

While the new model is essentially presented in the same wrapper as the 40D, it has significant improvements that make it very tempting indeed

Canon EOS 50D review

By Joanne Carter (pcadvisor.co.uk)

Boasting a 50 percent increase in pixel count, the Canon EOS 50D is an update to the hugely capable but underrated 10Mp EOS 40D digital SLR.

The new Canon EOS 50D is a superbly versatile piece of kit. If you're an existing Canon owner in search of a rugged APS-C format camera, there's no need to look any further. But, if you're in the market for a new system, it's not quite as convincing as...

Award: Recommended!

Canon's latest semi-pro DSLR has a 15.1MP CMOS sensor and 6.3fps continuous shooting

The latest version of Canon's popular semi-pro DSLR, the EOS 50D cannot fail to impress with its solid build quality, versatile control system and blisteringly fast performance. The new sensor and image processor provide great picture quality and good...

Its relatively high price in a very competitive market could restrict its popularity with newcomers, and it offers EOS 40D owners no compelling reason to upgrade.

Canon EOS 50D review

Given the intense competition in the current advanced amateur SLR market, Canon's decision to launch the EOS 50D six months earlier than previous models in this line comes as no major shock.

Canon EOS 50D review

By Rod Lawton (cnet.co.uk)

The EOS 50D is an excellent semi-pro camera with slick controls, rugged build and a terrific continuous shooting rate of 6.3fps. But while the camera's great, the pictures are pretty average, despite that 15-megapixel sensor. The fine detail in JPEGs...

Rugged build ; Excellent design ; 6.3fps shooting ; High-res LCD

Unexceptional definition ; Disappointing 17-85mm kit lens

Conclusion Like other EOS cameras, the 50D is a dream to use, and that big control dial on the back makes EV compensation and other adjustments a breeze. It's fast, responsive and hard as nails, but the results are actually a bit on the ordinary side....

Review: Canon EOS 50D

By Alexandra Savvides (asia.cnet.com)

This Canon shooter gives plenty of bang for the buck and could well be one of the top midrange dSLRs.

Excellent image quality; gorgeous new LCD screen; HDMI output

No Live View in Automatic mode; Creative Auto mode seems out of place

Though the 50D isn't the successor to the 40D, it offers numerous improvements that may be worth the upgrade--or the outright new purchase--depending on your priorities. After having experienced the quality and depth of color in the new LCD screen it...

If you do a lot of on-camera reviewing and value an improved screen, consider the 50D. For most other uses though, it performs (and looks) remarkably similar to the 40D, making the choice as much about price as it is about features.
