Though it's fast and has some really novel, useful features, the HX1 just doesn't deliver the photo quality expected for its class.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 review

By Elias Plastiras (pcadvisor.co.uk)

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 is one of the new hybrid digital still cameras that can be used to shoot good quality video.

If you want an advanced compact with a big zoom and if don't plan on making big prints of your photos then the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 is worth considering. However, you will have to get used to its odd physical characteristics (such as the poor...

Can HD video and smart shooting modes turn Sony's new bridge camera into a crossover hit?

Average both as a big-zoom camera and as a hi-def camcorder, but in one box that's not half bad

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 review

By Lori Grunin (cnet.co.uk)

Trade-offs abound with Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 superzoom. It's fast and has some really novel, useful features, but it just doesn't deliver the photo quality expected for its class

Speedy performance ; Tiltable LCD ; hand-held twilight' mode produces better-than-average photos in low light ; Zooms during movie capture

Small electronic viewfinder ; No raw support ; HDMI output requires dongle ; No standard continuous-shooting mode

While it's always a good rule to work out what you're most likely to be shooting before choosing a digital camera, it's never been more important than with the HX1

Review: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1

By Lori Grunin (asia.cnet.com)

This megazoom camera has dSLR-like functions and can record HD-quality movies. But is it any good?

Fast performance; tilting LCD; Hand-held Twilight mode produces good photos in low light; able to zoom during movie capture

Small EVF; no RAW format support; HDMI output requires dongle; no standard continuous shooting mode

Though it's fast and has some really novel, useful features, the HX1 just doesn't deliver the photo quality expected for its class.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 review

By Elias Plastiras (macworld.co.uk)

With an impressive feature set, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 should be all things for all people; but lacks at some of the basics.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 is one of the new hybrid digital still cameras that can be used to shoot good-quality video. It has a massive 20x zoom lens and lots of manual features.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1

By (fwd.five.tv)

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 is a 9.1MP superzoom with CMOS sensor and stabilised 20x (28-560mm equivalent) zoom lens. It has a three-inch folding LCD, 10fps continuous shooting, sweep panorama, low noise and anti-blur modes. As well as a 1080p...

This Sony’s 20x zoom lens isn’t just a lens, it’s a force of nature. From a wideangle that can accommodate Jonathan Ross’s ego to a telephoto that can (just) make out the Jonas Brothers’ talent, the stabilised optics are crisp and sharp. A high-speed...

How often do you zoom in to the inside of someone’s nose? If you don’t need the longer reaches of the huge lens, a budget SLR like the Nikon D60 costs and weighs about the same, but with a crystal clear optical viewfinder instead of a cramped EVF,...

Japanese Sony’s most American camera yet: the big, brash HX1 chews gum and deafens cowering compacts with its 20x zoom and endless feature list. However, average picture quality is all mouth and no (plaid) ‘pants’.

It measures 115x83x92mm, and weighs 504g.

Sony Cybershot DSC-HX1

By George Cole (reghardware.co.uk)

A super zoom camera with a good sprinkling of features, including a few novel ones. Shame about the video performance though.

Apart from lacking a RAW image option and the less than Full HD video, the DSC-HX1 offers a pretty good spec. Features such as a powerful optical image stabilisation system, Sweep Panorama and a lightning fast continuous shooting mode are great to...

But overall, we liked the DSC-HX1 and if a super zoom compact is on your wish list, you might find that this camera offers the right set of features and performance for the price.
