Panasonic Lumix GX8

The Panasonic Lumix GX8 is a compact system camera that looks more like an old rangefinder model than your average CSC. It's big, offers as many controls as the cockpit of a jet plane and an excellent EVF too.

Excellent speed and burst options ; Comprehensive control ; Great EVF

Large frame ; MFT sensor limits high-ISO performance

Panasonic GX8 review

Panasonic's first 20MP CSC impresses in every respect

New 20MP sensor ; Magnesium alloy, dust- and splash-proof build ; Excellent viewfinder

No drive mode dial ; Larger than the GX7 ; Four Thirds type sensor is smaller than APS-C format competition

With G, GM, GF, GH and GX lines, Panasonic's G series of compact system cameras can get a little confusing. The GX models have a flatter, more rectangular shape than the SLR-like G and GH ranges, and they're more advanced than the GF and GM cameras....

Panasonic Lumix GX8 review: Viewfinder victory for 20MP compact system camera

It's been almost exactly two years since we last saw a GX-series model – the viewfinder-laden "flat" compact system camera series – in 2013's excellent Lumix GX7 . But with the new GX8, we see the shifting focus of Panasonic as a camera company: to aim...

Exceptional viewfinder scale and resolution, new vari-angle touchscreen, sturdy and water-resistant build, fast autofocus system, physical controls, 4K options, silent operation option

No drive mode dial, larger and more expensive than GX7, accidental focus point adjustment via touchscreen, battery life limitations, continuous AF not faultless

What many will want to know is whether the Lumix GX8 is worth its four-figure asking price. Its on-board viewfinder is a competition killer so, with that in mind, the answer is a resounding yes.

Panasonic GX8 review

Luxurious and feature-packed, but the Panasonic GX8 has some stiff competition at this price.

Then again, the X-T1 can't begin to compete for video capture, and its lack of a touchscreen makes it slower to move the autofocus point. Sometimes it's little details like these that make a big difference. The GX8 seems like an extravagant purchase at...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 camera

A high-end camera that produced inconsistent image quality

Good manual control ; Hinged EVF and LCD ; Fast performance

Image quality not as crisp as we expected ; Focus and clarity were inconsistent in our tests ; Focus peaking feature too subtle

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 offers a quick burst rate, in-body stabilization, and 4K video recording, making it a strong contender in the premium mirrorless camera space.

Quick autofocus. 8.3fps burst shooting. Large shooting buffer. 4-axis in-body stabilization. Tilting EVF. Vari-angle touch display. Strong high ISO performance. Wi-Fi with NFC. 4K video capture. Weather-sealed body.

No flash included. 4K video is cropped. Non-standard microphone input.

Conclusions Micro Four Thirds photographers in want of a new camera should give the GX8 a close look. It combines the benefits of in-body stabilization found in most Olympus models with the 4K video capabilities that Olympus cameras don't offer. Add a...

Great Eight: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 review

At first glance, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 looks like just another rangefinder-style mirrorless camera. But flip it around and you quickly notice it's unique tilting electronic viewfinder, one of several features that make this camera stand out from...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 stands out from the Micro Four Thirds crowd for quite a few reasons, with the most obvious being its tilting electronic viewfinder, which it inherited from its predecessor, the
