Panasonic Lumix G7

The Panasonic Lumix G7 takes the classic G-series mid-range accessibility and bolts-on some of the higher-grade video skills of the Panasonic GH4. That camera brought 4K video shooting to thousands, this one lowers the entry price a bit.

Two-year-old sensor ; Lightweight build ; Micro Four Thirds type sensor is smaller than APS-C

While the G7's design and build may lack the excitement of cameras like the Fuji X-T10, it has a very well-rounded feature set, with a high-quality OLED viewfinder, a vari-angle touchscreen and Wi-Fi connectivity. Image quality is also high.

Affordable, fully featured screen and viewfinder, impressive 4K capture, decent image quality (4K Photo has its uses too), pinpoint autofocus mode, extensive and customisable controls, silent electronic shutter option

Boxy and plasticky build, larger than G6 predecessor, occasional autofocus slip-ups, single SD card (slot in battery compartment), no 4K Cinema mode, 4K Photo pre-burst focus issues, battery life could be better

So there we have it, the GH4 junior. No, we mean Lumix G7. Just like the top-end model, the G7 offers great image quality, excellent 4K video capture, super-fast autofocus, and even the 4K Photo option has its uses.

For the money, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 delivers great photo and video, excellent performance and a broad feature set.

It's another in a long line of Panasonic cameras with proprietary USB connectors and some people might find it too complicated.

A great mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera for families and travelers, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 is a compelling alternative to similarly priced dSLRs.
