Nvidia Shield Android TV review: 4K and gaming meet in powerhouse box

There has been a lot of talk of late about Amazon adopting 4K video streaming for its new Fire TV box, something Apple hasn't adopted in Apple TV. But Nvidia can sit pointing and laughing in a corner as its Shield Android TV is the most capable...

4K video at 60fps via HDMI 2.0, BBC iPlayer on an Android TV box, the best cloud gaming platform around, Tegra X1 processor ensures unparalleled performance, Google Cast abilities, voice commands and search, Game Controller included

No remote control in the box, Android TV is still lacking in app support for many big name services, gamer-friendly looks are an acquired taste

Number of Android TV-supported apps aside, the Nvidia Shield Android TV is the best media streamer out there bar none. There are devices that profess to offer more content and channels, such as those by Roku, but when it comes down to it there are only...

Nvidia Shield Android TV review

Two parts gaming machine, one part set-top box

Powerful components ; Sleek design ; Great game selection

More expensive than competitors ; Android TV prioritizes Google Play

The Nvidia Shield is an awesome gaming system, but a mediocre set-top box. It's able to deliver stunning 4K content to your living room TV without breaking a sweat, but is ultimately limited by Android TV's lack of native apps and penchant for paid...

Nvidia Shield

For many, Android TV boxes are a hard sell, as pretty much every new TV has its own suite of streaming apps pre-installed. That was why the original Nvidia Shield TV was such a welcome surprise.

The Shield TV is still the best streaming box around, but its best features haven’t arrived yet.

Nvidia Shield TV Review: In Depth

Nvidia Shield TV UK Review: Nvidia's streaming box isn't just about 4K video; it's also a powerful & flexible games machine that puts consoles to shame.

4K 60fps streaming ; Super-powered ; Versatile gaming

Bulky (but gorgeous) design ; Remote not included

Nvidia's Shield TV is a superb streaming box that's ideal for vegging out to Netflix and other video services, as well as a solid competitor to gaming consoles thanks to its versatile nature. If Buddha was a couch potato, this would be his...

Nvidia Shield Android TV Review

While set-top streaming boxes are a fairly saturated marketplace, most of these boxes don't take aim at gamers with powerful enough hardware. However, this is not the case with the Nvidia Shield Android TV, a sleek and small streaming box powered by...

Maxwell GPU.

Only 16GB of internal storage.

Nvidia Shield TV review (2015): The best Android TV device you can buy

Nvidia's Shield TV is an Android TV streamer with a difference, packing real gaming power and strong streaming capabilities

As an Android TV device, there isn’t anything better than the Shield TV. While that’s a bit of a backhanded compliment, due to Android TV’s own limitations, Nvidia’s saving grace is its focus on games and 4K.

NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Review

NVIDIA takes on the streaming box/micro console market and decides not to do things by halves. The results are truly superb with a device geared toward...

Exceptional power ; Great connectivity ; Proper 24p Support ; HDMI 2.0 output ; Unrivalled gaming experience in sector ; GeForce NOW is amazing ; Great KODI integration that's getting better ; 7.1 HD audio pass-through ; Excellent manufacturer support

Lack of native apps ; (Temporary) Colour Space Issue ; No TV remote and optional one is pricey ; Audio drop-outs with less sensitive headphones ; Some will think it expensive

The NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV emerges in to a product sector that is gaining favour with manufacturers and consumers alike. Apple, Amazon and Roku have all released – or are about to – very similar devices to the SHIELD TV. They are designed as a...

Nvidia Shield Android TV 16GB review

The nVidia Shield TV successfully straddles the line between streaming device and gaming console.

4K HDR streaming video ; Good gaming capabilities ; Has every app you may need ; Simple, intuitive user interface ; Attractive design

Disappointing controller ; High network requirements ; Only 16 GB storage

It’s obvious we have some serious misgivings about the controller, but in general, we enjoyed our time with the Shield TV quite a bit. As a set-top streamer, the Shield TV will provide you with 4K HDR content and all the popular apps you could want....
