Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition review

A good selection of components, room for upgrades, and a 4th-gen Intel CPU make Dell's XPS 8700 a nice family or dorm PC. We just wish it were a bit more configurable.

Aside from its mostly unnecessary abundance of RAM, the XPS 8700 Special Edition is a well-rounded performance desktop that’s a good fit as a family PC or a dorm-room power tower. It’s powerful enough to handle pretty much any task that you throw at...

Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition

The Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition desktop PC will do the trick whether you're looking to edit video, cleanup photos, or enjoy some games, making it a great all-around performer.

Fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4770 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 offer prosumer performance. Sizeable storage.

Bland design.

As a multimedia desktop, the Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition is a prosumer system that's perfect for the user who wants to dabble in graphics arts, video editing, and a bit of 3D gaming. The inclusion of a fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4770 processor,...

Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition's review: A little less performance for a lot less cash

No one will mistake this machine for boutique builder's product, but we have no complaints about its price/performance ratio.

Powerful 4th-generation Intel Core processor ; 2TB drive with 32GB SSD cache for fast storage ; Midrange video card for modern gaming

Only one PCIe x16 slot (occupied) ; Just a single chassis fan ; All four memory slots are occupied

The Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition is a solid entry-level gaming PC.

Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition

The Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition tries to provide you with lots of performance power, some added connectivity features, but it doesn't leave much room for future expansion or a second graphics card. It delivers in the performance category, but it's...

Wi-Fi & Intel WiDi connectivity, Plenty of USB 3.0 ports, Blu-ray drive, Solid performance

Limited internal expansion, Pricier than similar desktops

it's alright

bought this as more of a gaming computer and wasn't disappointed, it does mostly what I want it too gaming wise but usually only get 30 FPS on most games, and it runs really fast if you're want to use it for office work or something similar. Case is...

if you're buying this as a gaming computer maybe start with something better if you have the money, but I planned on upgrading parts over time anyways

DELL X8700-1572BLK

Decent for the price compared to other machines, I was looking for a machine to replace an old cluttered computer thats at deaths door with a lot of business materials on it. Needed something quick, low end nvidia so the user can still use some GPU...

Working, but slow PC

On this order we were charged "Electronic Waste Recycling Fee" on a desktop PC. I call Newegg. They won't too shall what is going on.

Computer works fine. It comes with Win 7 Pro installed and a Win 8.1 Pro recovery DVD. The Dell's backup utility is bare minimum. I replaced it with Acronis

The Dell PC runs a bit slower than a custom built PC from 2 years ago, according to the user. Since the Dell PC comes with a faster i7 CPU, I really can't figure out why. My only guess is that the Dell PC comes with a slower SSD drive

BSOD, Multiple Crashes

Bought this machine for office duty & light gaming, bad choice. The machine did not provide any of the needs that I've expected. Highly disappointed with this purchase. Will never purchase or trust Dell brand in future.

Nearly silent ; i7 4790

Crashes and freezes ; Poor ram and psu (which is not even specified) ; Parts were connected loosely to the motherboard ; Constant BSOD with number of causes ; Out dated drivers

Loved this machine

I decided to get a computer preconfigured this time. I have built all my previous computers myself. Very pleased with how this computer is working.

Very fast. Had a graphics card that ran both Civ V and Total War Empire with now issues ; It booted up and within 10 minutes I was loading software. It recognized both my printer and scanner automatically ; Very pleased so far

Grphics card could not use both DVI connections to my 2 monitors. I attached one via DVI and the other VGA. It does have another display port available, but did not use that one
