Asus Transformer AiO P1801 review

A desktop/tablet hybrid; a tabtop?

Two processors run both Windows 8 and Jelly Bean ; Tablet has built-in handle and stand

Tablet is large and unwieldy on its own ; Somewhat impractical

The Transformer AiO is certainly an odd duck when it comes to hybrid computers, but with both Windows 8 and Jelly Bean running smoothly it could potentially replace a whole host of other devices in the home. Many people are likely satisfied with just...

Asus Transformer AiO P1801 is a Win 8 desktop by day, giant Android tablet by night, we go hands-on - Pocket-lint

Asus Asus Transformer P1801 review

Asus's Transformer P1801 is an odd beast: part extra-large Android tablet, part Windows 8 all-in-one desktop. When docked, the tablet is an 18.4in IPS display for the PC, but as soon as you lift it from the dock, it becomes a stand-alone tablet with a...

Asus Transformer P1801 review

An innovative PC and tablet in one, allowing for easy PC use throughout your home

Although it's technically very impressive, it's hard to see what the Transformer's exact niche is. The tablet's a bit too big to be really convenient to use on your lap in front of the TV, but a small size wouldn't work so well as a display for a full...

ASUS Transformer AiO all-in-one PC

ASUS has created a desktop PC that incorporates an Android tablet

Good performance ; Desktop PC and Android tablet

Somewhat confusing product ; Tablet is huge

The ASUS Transformer AiO is one of the more interesting PC products to be released this year, incorporating both a desktop PC and an 18.4in Android tablet, which doubles as the PC's monitor. You can use the big screen as a regular Android tablet, or...

Invasion of the tabletop tablets: Are these fiendishly clever hybrids the ultimate family PCs?

You can thank Windows 8 for this bold new experiment: touchscreen all-in-one computers that can move all around the house.

Two computers in one ; Desktop Core i5 processor ; 1TB, 7200 rpm hard drive

Mode switching can be clumsy ; Webcam nonfunctional in Android mode ; No HDMI input on either base or tablet

Asus' lovable Windows 8/Android mashup

The Asus Transformer AIO melds a Windows 8 all-in-one and an 18.4-inch Android tablet into one versatile, powerful device.

The Asus Transformer AIO delivers a fast Windows 8 all-in-one, a giant Android tablet, and an effective platform for using them in tandem.

Remote desktop technology makes using Windows 8 in tablet mode unreliable, and you might prefer to wait to buy until later this year when the category has matured.

You'd be smart to wait and see how the market develops, but Asus has used the freedom of the still-forming all-in-one/tablet hybrid category to create a compelling Windows 8/Android device in the Transformer AIO.

Asus Transformer AIO (P1801-B037K)

Asus looks to science fiction for inspiration with the Transformer AIO (P1801-B037K), an all-in-one Win8 desktop and portable Android tablet combined.

Splashtop lets you use Windows 8 around the house. Can use Android apps. Speedy quad-core processor and discrete graphics. Four USB 3.0 ports. Quick switch between environments.

Some lag on tablet when out of dock. Webcam not accessible to Windows when away from dock. Mouse and keyboard have limited range. No HDMI-in. Crashes in either OS can make the system seem unresponsive.

You'll have to go through an extended setup process on the Transformer AIO, which includes logging into Windows and logging into the Android Jelly Bean environment. You can set up a local login in Windows, but for Jelly Bean you'll need a Google...
