Fantastically immersive sci-fi RPG

By benminx (play.com) Read the full review

It's a rare moment in games when you get a "Hell yeah! That's MY character!" moment of wonder. The beginning of Mass Effect, should you choose to create a personalised Shepherd, is just such a moment. I was sucked in as supporting characters described...

Very enjoyable RPG.

I really enjoyed playing this game, despite a few minor niggles that reduced it to four instead of five stars, I'll get to those at the end.

Very good console-style sci-fi RPG

By zzz2zzz (play.com) Read the full review

It's easy, simplified (which is good: you don't have to spend too much time between menus - but also combat, dialogues, etc). If you love traditional RPGs like Baldur's Gate, this feels a little bit superficial. However, the story is nice and well...

Mass Effect review

By Daniel Tennant, (pcadvisor.co.uk)

Mass Effect has been a huge hit game on the Xbox 360, and now it comes to the PC.

If you've already tackled the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect, you certainly don't need to shell out for the PC version, too, but if you haven't yet experienced this magnum opus, this is the version you should play.

Mass Effect

By Sam Gibson (play.tm)

Ever since games started to muscle in on cinema's territory there has been one omission that has reduced the emotional impact the player experiences once the credits begin to roll. All too often a game will exert itself trying to emulate the look,...

The mid-game is packed with difficult choices that really do affect how things pan out and there's plenty of scope for real role-playing. The action element also really picks up once your characters master the technique of point the end that goes zap...

Mass Effect has oodles of replayability too, not only in the form of different party members and the attitude of your central character to the universe, but also in the bonuses to your stats that you get from achieving certain goals. I've played every...

Mass Effect Review

By Darren Cartledge (realgamer.net)

Sci-fi role-playing games seem to have become increasingly popular amongst developers given that the fantasy angle has been almost done to death. Mass Effect which has already been released on the Xbox 360 to high praise is here from developers Bioware...

On the whole Mass Effect offers a great playing experience with lots of opportunity for exploration and intense shooter action. The games storyline is gripping and will keep you wanting to play and as the game is set in a galaxy the game offers a lot...

Overall an excellent action role-playing game.

Mass Effect (PC) review

By Sean Bell (darkzero.co.uk)

Remember Mass Effect? You should - it only came out last year, and it was really bloody good. A sci-fi RPG from the talented chaps at BioWare, it was released on the 360 to critical acclaim, and went on to sell a boatload of copies. It wasn't without...

Admittedly, the game isn't for everyone - there's a lot of dialogue to wade through, so if you're not into sci-fi or having conversations with your crew members just for the sake of finding out their back-stories (all of which are brilliant, by the...

The rest of the PC gaming community, though, has got one hell of an adventure to look forward to.

Prophet Tenebrae puts the PC version of Mass Effect through its paces

Despite being disappointingly short, it's still cool and it's still fun

Mass Effect

By Andy (allaboutthegames.co.uk)

Bioware's latest opus hits ilmaestro's weakspot for massive dam... er, effect.

It's overly harsh to spend this much time on Mass Effect's shortcomings - they only stand out so clearly due to the immense overall quality - as it is one of the most engaging and enjoyable games of the year. Whatever you're looking for in an RPG, you...

If they are not given the opportunity to finish off the trilogy it will be the biggest travesty of this video gaming era.

Mass Effect (EA Games)

By (goodgearguide.com.au)

Eliminates most of the major problems of the 360 version ; gameplay is just as good

Has minor problems of its own that keep it from being just about perfect

It's got some problems - but if you don't own the Xbox 360 version, you should definitely give it a go.

Mass Effect

By Brian Edey (Falelorn) (gamefocus.ca)

When BioWare first showed Mass Effect to the world we all were blown away by the cinematic feel, amazing graphics and of course we were all excited to have a new BioWare RPG (Role Playing Game) to play. But those PC only gamers who have been begging...

Its basically the same Mass Effect from the Xbox 360 just sharper graphics ; New HUD is great ; New individual control tactics are great, but really only needed on higher difficulty ; New Inventory System is excellent ; Texture issues from the 360...

Release bugs were many and required many gamers to jump through hoops to play the game ; Shadows suck... just horrible and are distracting ; Loading Screens/times in PC version where there are no loading screens in Xbox 360 version ; Few slow downs and...

If you do play Mass Effect and have played and of course enjoyed their stellar RPG, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic you will notice many similar gameplay and cinematic paths. This is not a bad thing at all because in the end Mass Effect has...

Mass Effect

By Zkylon (hookedgamers.com)

Conceiving Commander Shepard

Mass Effect starts out with the usual character creation screen, leaving it up to you to pick main character Commander Shepard’s name, class, appearance and which may be one of my favorite features of the character creation, character background....

Each choice will reflect on you as side quests later in the game. This brings with it a really nice sense of realism, as if Shepard had a previous life to begin with.

Mass Effect

By Billy Wang (gamernode.com)

Yep, I encountered some stuttering before conversations too, which skipped over that line of dialogue. I'm not sure what's causing it (hardware?), but I kept subtitles on too and it wasn't really a big deal. Post a Comment

There's no reason to miss out on a game as great as Mass Effect, and this PC port is a great example on why patience pays off for us PC-exclusive gamers.
